Vancouver, Washington — On June 17, 2024, at approximately 12:51 a.m., a Vancouver Police Patrol Officer was driving in the 2800 block of NE Andresen Road. Three people flagged the officer down and reported that a male walked by them as they were parked in the McDonald’s parking lot, had a verbal exchange with them, pulled a gun out of his pocket and pointed it at them. The victims told the officer they thought he was going to shoot them. As the officer was speaking with them, one of the people pointed out the suspect who was walking southbound on Andresen.

They described the suspect as a male wearing black clothing, a mask, and having a handgun, which he pulled from his right pocket. The suspect was later identified as 40-year-old Jonathan West Nelson. Officers established probable cause for Assault I for the suspect. Multiple officers responded to the area and saw the suspect walking southbound around the 2400 block of NE Andresen Rd. Officers followed the suspect at slow speed, and for 2 minutes and 30 seconds made multiple, audible PA announcements identifying themselves as police, telling the suspect to stop, announcing that the suspect was under arrest and telling the suspect to show both his hands. The suspect refused the police commands and kept walking away.

One of the responding officers deployed his K9 partner. As the K9 Remi was actively making contact, the suspect pulled out a Gun with his right hand. The footage also shows Nelson clutching what appears to be a knife in his left hand. Four Vancouver officers discharged their firearms striking the suspect. During this incident, the VPD K9’s tail was struck by gunfire. Officers rendered medical aid to the suspect prior to him being transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. K9 Remi underwent surgery at an emergency veterinary hospital and was released June 18. The sheriff’s office said that Remi is doing well. Other than the VPD K9, no Vancouver Police Officers or bystanders were physically injured during the incident.

  2. I’m a firm believer if you’re to sacred to approach the suspect then you shouldn’t send in your dog. ( unless the suspect is hiding and you have too ). But in a stand off situation like this if you are not closing in cause you think your life is in danger don’t send your F***ING DOG IN.

  3. but i thought hand guns were illegal in canada 😱 how on earth did someone get a gun if they’re illegal 😱😱😱

  5. Doesn't look like the dog was shot in the tail from how it was acting. Suspect wasn't even making a hasty getaway & they had scores of officers and vehicles, and used an attack dog. Weak and pathetic.

  6. "PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Vancouver Police Department K9’s tail was amputated after an officer’s bullet likely struck it during a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 17 in Northeast Vancouver, authorities confirmed on June 26.

"The Vancouver Police Department announced Wednesday that K9 Remi is still recovering from the shooting. Photos posted to the Vancouver Police Department Facebook page show that most of Remi’s long, bushy tail was amputated during the emergency surgery. VPD spokesperson Kim Kapp confirmed that Remi lost most of his tail as a result of the injury.

"“We are happy to share K9 Remi is recovering at home and doing well after being injured in a shooting last week,” the Vancouver Police Department shared on Facebook. “Thank you to all the community members who have sent well wishes along to Remi the past week.”"

  7. This would NEVER happen in Toronto. Toronto cops spend their time giving out speeding tickets instead of actually doing something about crime.

  8. Heyyy! That’s a city where I live near!

It’s common to have druggies/homies/people with knives or weapons.
Vancouver law is super plain. You can murder and sexually assault a 16 year old girl and be sent 4 years in jail. (Yes that happened back in 2016-17)
That’s why these cases are pretty common.

I’m surprise they have body camera

  9. Damn they hit this dude up in different angles and sections while gettin tore up by the dog what a bad way to go out holy crap!
