  1. As a general statement … LEOs are singletons … I just don't see a lot of pairs … when you're alone, ANYTHING can spike the stress. It's not just the pay they are short on, no LEO should be required to ride alone.

  2. as someone who served in the army, (closest i got to combat experience was being in S.Korea in 09-10 XD) it always baffled me how even as a Patriot Missile guy i felt like i had more de-escalation skills than i was seeing even in my own towns. side note i never really had a personal "Bad" experience with an officer either. totally agree with hypervigilance, tho i have no law enforcement experience i stand beside my brothers and sisters in blue just steadily as those in Camo's.

  3. I lived with a firefighter who didn't manage his stress well, for 8 years! He took a lot of it out on me, and he also turned to alcohol, xanax, and material things. It took a lot out of me and I've never even wanted to live with anyone ever again since. Much less get married! 😳 As much as he hurt me, I still wish him the best. I know he has a stressful job that put pressure on him. He betta feel some remorse for it at least tho lol

  4. Need to have 1/2 inch stainless skin, be mostly deaf to not hear yelled insults and be willing to forgoe your morals/ethics if you need to stay in a bad department.

  5. I'm not a police officer, but a lot of this is valuable to all of us in public service. Something that really hit home is not to obsess over mistakes or policy decisions over which I have no control. I still struggle with that sometimes, and I've worked with a lot of cops and administrative investigators who had to learn how important that is.

  6. IF I WAS A COP. ID BEAT EVERY CRIMINAL TO A INCH OF HIS LIFE, CRACK SKULLS. DESTROY GANGS BY SHOOTING THEM

  7. I truly believe that many folks would benefit from either doing a "ride-a-long", if their local department provides, or wish that they could be a police officer for a day. I really think it would open their firmly shut eyes.
Thanks for shining a light on a small part of what is right and wrong with a career in law enforcement.

  8. I was conflicted on whether or not to hit the like button……..I liked it, so I wanted to hit it…….but it was showing 69 likes….and I didn't want to ruin that……..so sorry, but I did press the like button.

  9. I've always believed that being a police officer requires more than a badge, but a calling. No different than any other position where peoples lives depend on your judgment, training and fitness. Thank you Mike.

  10. Thanks for posting this Mike. Believe it or not, I’m a 55 year old man, retiring from a healthcare career. I am seriously considering being a police officer. This is great stuff to consider, no matter what I choose to do.

  11. Thanks for talking about this. I want to go into law enforcement some day and the knowledge you give can help me in going and staying in this field of work.

  12. The Obama Presidental Blue Ribbon Panel on Policing says no police officer should work over 32 hrs per week because of bad sleep patterns which causes stress.
