Morris, Illinois — On September 29, 2023, Morris police received a 911 call from counselors who worked with 40-year-old Alivia Schwab, after being informed she was threatening herself with a knife. The officers found Schwab in the doorway of her first-floor apartment, on her cellphone talking to the counselors in her right hand and with a knife pointed to the ground in her left. As Schwab slowly walked out of her apartment, Officer Nick Pampinella told Officer Casie Price to use a Taser on her. However, Officer Price never discharged it or removed it from its holster as Schwab walked past her.
Two seconds later, Officer Pampinella who instructed Officer Price to use a taser pulled a gun and shot Schwab three times, including once to the left eye. After Schwab was shot and killed, the officers handcuffed her in the parking lot. The two officers involved were not charged and the use of deadly force was deemed justifiable by the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office. The teenage children of Schwab have filed a federal lawsuit against Morris Police. The lawsuit documents claim that Schwab had a history of mental illness and was “in the process of transitioning from a residential facility into her own apartment” when the shooting occurred.

This is why teamwork, communication, and training are so important in law enforcement. When he told her to “go non-lethal†on their approach to the scene, she should have had her ECD (Taser) out. She failed to do so and by the time he told her to deploy it, it was too late for her to retrieve it. The 21’ rule applies here and she should have had it out at the low ready at the very least. This shooting is the direct result of the female officer failing to do what she was told to do by the male officer and what she should have already known to do based on her training. Such a likely avoidable tragedy.
She is there just for a paycheck.
One can only hope this female cop has been relieved of all duties because she was absolutely ineffectual on the job. He should have never had to tell her to taze the suspect. WTH? Unbelievable.

There will probably be a lawsuit as well. Deploying taser way too late. This was clear suicide by cop scenario. Deploy taser, if it fails, go to the firearm.
Taser deployed about 18 seconds too late. She had 18 seconds to lawfully deploy the taser, and failed to do so.

I get why everybody is upset with the female officer. But I feel like she is like new new in training or sum.. I don’t know how the whole process works to become a cop (I‘m from Germany).. but yeah feel like she‘s on the job the 1st day 😅

The description says that the lady officer never pulled out her taser but the video proved that was a lie. I agree with the consensus that the female officer was quite useless here. What I don't understand is they can clearly see she is deceased but yet cuff her?
