I fear for my life and wellbeing every time I encounter some costumed clown with a gun. Would I be justified in defending my life with deadly force in such encounters by the same logic the police have used? Especially given the frequency that these dangerous clowns kill civilians, it seems prudent to fear for one's life and act accordingly.

Now that the precedent is set, there's not a light on the planet that's gonna threaten me…car headlights, streetlights, check engine lights, hell I don't even trust stars at night anymore… I see a light, or something that I perceive as a light even if it's just a little bit shiny, I'm coming out blasting. We should all fear for our safety until we've eliminated the entire population. Then, and only then will we be truly safe.
I've been in fear for my safety many times over the years but I never shot anyone.
