Jail Guard Arrested on Duty Trying to Sneak Burrito to Inmate – Everything Law and Order Blog

@Copwatchtv received body camera footage of the investigation into an corrections officer being arrested on duty. MDC Corrections Officer Chevonne Culbreath was taken into custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate currently in custody at MDC.

According to a criminal complaint, Culbreath and an inmate were having intimate encounters with each other over the last month or so. The most recent incident involved the inmate and Culbreath entering a closet and engaging in sexual acts. We are not naming the inmate, but he has been in MDC since April 2024. He does have an extensive violent criminal record ranging from aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, negligent use of deadly weapon (discharge), stolen vehicles, child abuse, and battery on a police officer.

MDC leadership was made aware of the alleged relationship on Tuesday, September 17. The allegations were immediately reported to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and an investigation was initiated. As a result, Culbreath was removed from her post, placed under arrest, and was transported from MDC property in handcuffs. She was taken to BCSO headquarters to be interviewed and was later transported back to MDC for booking Tuesday evening.

In addition to BCSO’s investigation, MDC has launched its own investigation into these allegations. Culbreath was a probationary employee, who began her employment with MDC on Oct. 23, 2023.

“MDC leadership is deeply disappointed by the alleged actions of this corrections officer, which have undermined the integrity and trust we strive to uphold within our institution. Behavior of this nature will not be tolerated, and we are committed to ensuring that corrupt officers are swiftly identified and removed from our ranks,” says MDC Warden Kai Smith. “We will continue working in close partnership with the judicial system to ensure that the highest levels of accountability are enforced.”

Culbreath is also accused of receiving contraband from a person outside the facility, with the intention of smuggling the substance into MDC. The criminal complaint states, Culbreath got in contact with the inmate’s “baby momma” at a local Walmart to receive a breakfast burrito. Inside the burrito was THC wax for the inmate.

  1. First night my Lt. and Sargent told me 1. Never make promises to inmates 2. If their lips are moving its a lie 3. The magic word is No, Day Shift will take care of it. You are not their sweetheart, baby girl, sugar or their booty call inside or out. Best job I ever had.

  2. trust me they aren't strict about who they hire unfortunately not a lot of people sign up for the job so they pretty much get anyone that sticks around with that being said a lot of them women yeah they get hustled it starts with something small next thing you know they smuggling things in, phones cigarettes drugs etc

  3. Once you put yourself in the position that you can be blackmailed, you are giving away your honor. If she wanted to save her honor, she should have reported her lapse in judgement in giving the prisoner candy and tell them about the prisoner trying to blackmail her. It would have saved her dignity, prevented her from being raped and avoided being blackmailed into excepting drugs meant to be smuggled into the prison.

The candy likely would have lost her her job at the least. But the fact that she broke the rules and her decision to handle it more like a criminal than an officer showed she wasn't up to handling the job and needed to get a new line of work anyway.

She betraying her profession and continued along a dishonorable path. It's this type of decision making that puts all of her co-officers into danger because she didn't want to be caught.

  4. love after lockup that stupid ass show. these goofy ass girls not women who are very insecure seek these things out for companionship I got a goofy in my building and the low life she took in got the motherfu(king nerve to try and talk to me I felt like a roach 🪳🪳🪳🪳 was trying to crawl on me

  5. Of my 32 years with Parole, I never heard of any male officer having a relationship with parolees or inmates, it was always females, always females. They pick up on their insecurities and use those! This happens a lot!!!!

  6. Women correction officers for women prisons and men correction officers for men prisons! Problem should get solved unless they’re gay…

  7. Some people commenting here that she's to soft for that job and say they can tell by her voice that she's soft and more likely easy to manipulate because she's in secure well you are all right about that but that's Diversity hiring agenda for ya.

  8. She definitely broke the cardinal rule, because anytime you are especially a female in a men’s prison they will watch you. They will get the most insecure, naïve women and start showing her attention and say, you look pretty today and all this because she’s not getting that attention at home, and then they make their move. These prisoners have nothing to do all day, but watch you and then pray on your weakness.

  9. She’s lying her ass off trying not to get in trouble. She’s dumb as shit and trying to fuck guys in prison for months and months and got caught and now all of a sudden she had nothing to do with it
