A History of Phnom Penh: The Beautiful ‘City of Four Faces’ | History & Culture Documentary – Everything Law and Order Blog

A spectacular documentary looking at the beautiful city Phnom Penh, which is found in the intersection of four rivers, therefore it is poetically referred to as the ’City of Four Faces’. During the era of colonialism, when the city underwent huge development, it became known as the ’Pearl of Southeast Asia’.

From the amazing Khmer achitecture, like the Pagoda and the Royal Palace, to the bustling markets – this city, designed by the French, is filled with with long, wide avenues of magnificent buildings.

Some areas of Phnom Penh, like the Cantonese quarter, bear reminders of a tragic period of the city’s past: that of the Khmer Rouge.

Today, Phnom Penh is a lively and diverse city, characterised by its unique culture, history and traditions.

This documentary was produced by Eclectic and directed by Patrick de Carolis, Jean-Luc Orabona and Émanuelle Roblin. It was first released in 2014.
