I think the essence of who we are changes constantly over time.
Years ago my friends and I were talking about what we might become in future times with the increasing advances in technology. One of my friends said she could see us heading towards a time when we will be a type of floating consciousness, without our dependency or need for organs and bodies. I thought that was creepy, but now, not so much.

I don't understand why we would want to try and escape death. Death is a natural thing in life. And we could go nowhere or we do go to heaven. Or we're all reborn. We will never know until we are dead, thought if you are. Reconnected, then you would not know that you had lived a previous life. There is some proof that people maybe recall some people have been to places that they have never been to before. But remember being there which is strange but no solid proof of this.
