‘How to Prepare for Prison’ focuses on the lives of three vastly different people who are steeling themselves against the daunting prospect of serving prison sentences for the very first time. Shot over three years, the film captures their growing psychological trauma as their children and families face poverty and social shame, and the individuals charged face their fears about violence in prison and whether or not they can survive the loss of freedom. All three experience protracted waits for their trials and, whether they’ve really done the crime or not, feel the enormous power of the law. The film goes beyond the notion of guilt or innocence. By offering an intimate look at the lives and states of mind of those awaiting judgement—filled with regret, defiance and stark fear—it deepens our understanding of the legal system and cultural ideas about crime and punishment. The stakes are high. Lives are changed forever.
This documentary was produced by Cornelia Principe, Matt Gallagher and directed by Matt Gallagher. It was first released in 2016.

Superbly crafted documentary.
Commit a crime, time to face reality and, pay the piper
One decision can turn your life upside down, sucks
Man up momma's boy
If Demario was a republican I'd vote for him as president. Our current president, Joe biden, is the leader of a crime family. Obama did coke. Bush Jr got a DUI bill clinton raped women and Trump is orange as fuck. Damario still has a shot
Demario and his mom seem like decent ppl.
No kid should have to sell his toys to pay his parents bills. That said, the fact the kid cares that much says alot about his love for his dad
Nobody was facing a life sentence
Carlo seemed like a good kid. Kids his age don't concentrate on family enough. It's always about friends
Demarios lawyer seemed like he cared. More than you can say about most lawyers.
The crown? Is this in canada
"One decision can cost you more that you will to pay"- I feel that man on ♿

Grease your arse, that's how you prepare.
