i think you're wrong… i get your position, but she seems qualified… and if her staff is diverse, she will still get the stories out… i feel like its underserved
Black Companies and Institutions are constantly giving away our power and why the community constantly complains when the White equivalent does not hire us above a certain level. Power Blacks are too busy trying to belong and be accepted by their Corporate counterparts while providing an excuse.
Students that are non black often attend for free.check it out
damn man…like, the Asian chick is a gift..like we should be honored…. nugga plz
Chinese are taking over Africa too. No joke around a million chinese have been sent from China to work in Africa. They are getting ready to take over the world.
Wow he's right that's stupid af frfr why not a black person smh.
Just another way of separating human beings.
I beg to differ, I was taken in by my x husbands family at a very young age. I can give a better perspective of the black culture than I can of the white culture. My perspective in life is through the eyes of my black and brown loved ones. Maybe she is down for the cause. Who knows, do some research on her.
Dr. Claud Anderson made it clear when he said some black vendors offered Asian shop owners a 25-30% discount on products and the Asians said “nope, we only buy from our ownâ€.
Dr umar Johnson warned us of this years ago
Anyone who will advocate the rights and purpose of colored folk that will maximize the message suits the purpose
I'm actually against this one
Howard is tryna get that funding. Black people, unfortunately, can’t fund those donations.
I personally think people need to see her work first before pulling the trigger. Also it is true a magazine/blog/website about mostly Asian culture will 98% not hire a black person. Also for Latino/hispanic position we have tons of afrolatinos. mestizos and whites so everything counts since Hispanics have all colors.
Unless you know that they passed up a well qualified person you can’t make that assumption. Also you would be amazed how many black people pass up jobs at HBCU due to salaries.
Black people love other races more then their selves
Is this not technically racist?
This is what “diversity†is about, right?
We have been told over and over again that diversity is important and it contributes positively to the outcome of a venture or project, and for that very reason, universities like Harvard created a de-facto quota system designed to limit the number of Asian Pre-med students and include “others†(read non-white but non-Asian)
Now all of a sudden that Howard faculty show their commitment to “diversity†by selecting an Asian American editor who is qualified and the reaction is like there is some sort of betrayal of black people’s interest.
Kinda makes you think that the civil rights groups may not actually mean it when they ask for diversity in hiring?
#justblacks
The NFL is laughing at this 😂😂😂😂😂
Very disappointing but not surprised.
This is a narrow perspective, there are plenty of non blacks who are well versed in the black experience. Plenty of non blacks have marched and been arrested, and been ostracized for being N-lovers. As an HBCU the editor and chief has been and will likely continue to be historically black, not exclusively black. Having a non black in this position does not taint the lineage or change the goals of the institution. This argument reminds me of discussions of white fear in the browning of America when viewing civil rights, immigration or discrimination. If that fear is unfounded or wrongly inspires actions to preserve whiteness these positions are comparably harmful.
Black people love integrating with people who will never EVER reciprocate the same level of respect.
I get Envy's point that if she was an Alum, she gets a pass. I had a bunch of Asians in my class at FAMU so they definitely were part of the experience.
1. Most HBCU’s are not ran or controlled by Black people, their donor base, board of trustees, etc
2. She is not qualified because she did not realize she lacked the lived experience to speak on behalf of their community.
3. Howard is showing that they do not believe in their own platform of empowering Black communities. They must not believe in providing opportunities that are seldom given to our community nor do they believe they can produce someone qualified within their own community.
looks like we cant have anything exclusively…..🤔
Kamala Harris is 1/2 Asian & raised by an Indian (South Asian Woman) – she's the most powerful alumni from Howard
– so are you saying that HBC should not hv let her represent the Black community ?
Yea "but" we cant contridict ourselves either!!! We cant want exclusively "then" get out in the world and shout WE WANT EQUALITY "SHYET!!! DATS COMMON SENSE NO DEGREE NEEDED. YALL WAS STRETCHING ON THIS DONKEY
We act like HBCUs don't have Professors, Coaches, Players, Trainers, Band Members and Students of many Races at their Schools working?
"Asians would never…"
Yeah. That's kind of the problem.
I agree with with Charlemagne
You are wrong.
Everyone talking about Asian Institutions ,what about india? I mean look at isro head, but still I would rather say we should look at merit and I am saying this because everybody is saying it.
Yall better pay attention to what they trying to do.
Bottom line is Howard dropped the ball. You are supposed to be empowering black people, putting them in position to build a resume, get a check, open doors. This flush in the face of that. Now it would make sense if they are looking at this as a teaching position.
I would like to hear from Taylor more everyday.
Common let's keep it a buck. Yall just said yall want ppl to put black ppl in higher positions. So Howard university is simply treating people how they want to be treated. Talking about black people putting black people in higher positions is simply the reason it wont happen. White ppl fear if they put black ppl in power, the black ppl will only hire black ppl monopolizing all positions. Now I'm fully aware that is what white people are currently doing, but if yall are talking about being inclusive, hiring the right person, regardless of their color, that's just what this university did. Yall cant want change but only have that change benefiting black ppl, that's just what white folks are scared of. But if white pp realize that black ppl will hire the right person regardless of color, that'll make white ppl more comfortable to put black ppl in higher positions. I'm calling foul on this donkey submission. Actually ctg you get donkey for this one.
