The Murder So Terrible It Almost Cancelled Abolition | Historical True Crime Documentary – Everything Law and Order Blog

Just before the abolition of death sentence in France a terrible and bloody crime is committed. A young girl is found at Gare du l’Est’s left-luggage office, raped and murdered, her name was Marthe Erbelding.

Albert Soleilland was a friend of the Erbelding family who had used the pretext of concert tickets to trick the mother of Marthe to letting her go along with him.

The case comes under the spotlight when the murderer’s death penalty is commuted to life in prison and the media and public get involved in the debate on the death penalty.

This documentary was produced by PALLAS and directed by Patrick Schmitt et Pauline Verdu. It was first released in 2013.
