What Happens To North Koreans Who Try To Escape? | Witness | North Korea Defector Documentary – Everything Law and Order Blog

Every month, hundreds of desperate people attempt to flee North Korea to the South. Only a few succeed. Those who make it find themselves facing an entirely new set of problems. Many have left children behind in Korea and lost contact with their families. Discriminated against and traumatised by their experiences, they succumb to depression or suicide. They are free but rootless. Desperately alone with their memories.

Filmed over a year in South Korea, China and Thailand, ‘Han: The Price of Freedom’ looks at the fate of the North Koreans who risked everything to be free.

This documentary was produced by JAVA FILMS & PREMIERE NOUVELLE and directed by ALEXANDRE DEREIMS. It was first released in 2009.

  1. That must be terrible, you take all these risks only to realize that you cannot adapt to that new country that is yours now 😥

  2. This video was made when Kim Jong il was dictator and he died around 2011. But the content is still relevant. Since his son Kim Jong Un took over power, the border is more fortified with fences and guards on both the China and North Korea (DPRK) sides of the river border. Far fewer people are able to escape from the prison that is North Korea. Some organizations help people escape and adjust to their new circumstances, such as Liberty in North Korea, LiNK. God bless them.

  3. Thought of all the North Korean athletes who had to go back after participating in the Paris Olympics… What a hell to live in… Hope they are all free some day… 🙏

  4. These hard hearted idiots don't have enough sense to know that every bit of this is coming back home to greet them and I wouldn't wanna be in that predicament ! You reap what you sew and wether you believe in God or not it doesn't make him any less real because he is and was and always will be the absolute only God and Father of this creation and before long everyone is even going to get to meet him face to face . Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and he is the only True and Wise God of ALL !

  5. It seems North Koreans start to act entitled when they leave. I saw a woman refugee say when she left North Korea and was settled in Seattle she couldn't bear it because it rained all the time and was depressing. Thats a nice thank for providing you free housing, education and health care 👍🏼

  6. This world is unjust u have those who talk about God but he does not help and cant help u need too help your self we as humans allow one man too do as he pleases

  7. He would know that his family is likely all dead due to him escaping. They are forced with no other decision to make unfortunately in a dictatorship.

  8. I do think it will collapse eventually. But the problem is that for them it will get worse before it gets better when / if this happens

  9. As a South Korean, I think the translations are not good enough to deliver what they are actually saying. Sometimes very awkward.

  10. I jusy dont understand how we cant do SOMETHING to help these people. Theyre starving, tortured, brainwashed and more. Its sickening to just exist knowing of all this happening and theres nothing we can do. Why arent there protests and marchss and campaigns like we e been doing for palestine? Its sick

Edited to add that I'm not complaining about the outcry for Palestine and Palestinians I'm disgusted at the lack of it for these people that have suffered for 7 decades.

  11. Who is the worst man in the world, Kim jong un or Putin….both detested despots!…That poor woman who's parents died of hunger whilst Kim gets fatter and fatter!!….shocking!, sickening and saddening!!!…😮

  12. Watch this, reminded me of the hardship and hunger that i went through during my time in the Khmer Rouge regime and had no way to escape.

  13. Great film. South Korea does a lot for the North Korean refugees. Good job. Props to Thailand too. Watching that lady at the beginning being "interrogated" was mind blowing.

  14. I try to watch but after the woman being hit with the stick/wood i just got so sick to my stomach and pissed at the same time..!! No man/Woman/or child should be hit like that thats just Fucked Up even if they are the bad people, God got hurt like that for all of us and it's to much..!! 😭🙏🏽❣️

  15. Our government won't stop it. So I'm sure that's all it ever will be. This is why I don't leave America. We have so much here. Why risk it going somewhere else. Truly unfortunate.

  16. I cannot believe that any country would close their borders to an obvious refugee!
Yet random men come by the boatloads in Europe and rape women and children…

how is the rest of the world not invading this country and freeing everyone! Just goes to show that noone in power cares about people…we're just cattle.

  17. Can't wait for the day to come when the North Korean people wake up and put a stop to this barbaric regime. It's uncalled for.

  18. What can an individual do to help , if possible, the Minister, him get more refugees out of North Korea?
Does he have a website where one can donate to a charity or nonprofit organization? Is there ANYTHING that we, as Individuals that take so much for granted, can do ???

  19. The reason the two Koreas cannot unite is the interest conflict among the US, China, Russia and Japan.

  20. AND TO THINK ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT VOTED FOR BIDEN ARE VOTING FOR THIS LIFE BECAUSE COMMUNIST DOESN'T COME TO YOU AND ANNOUNCE WHAT THEY ARE DOING IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU DEMOCRATS WANTING BIG GOVERNMENT

  21. The suffering and the urge for freedom are beyond any of us could ever imagine 😢 yet no western country talk about them and NK is a good friend of America! What a shame!
