How to Get Your Car to Make Sharper Turns (Steering Angle Mod) – Everything Law and Order Blog

Learn how to get more steering angle so your car can make sharper turns by removing rack limiters in the steering rack. That way you can make a U turn instead of a K turn. This works for cars that have steering rack limiters (spacers) and can be quick and easy to do.

  1. I am going to post some short videos on Instagram (@ChrisFixit) answering some questions like if I was able to make a U-turn instead of a K-turn now. Also I am almost at 100k followers on Instagram so be sure to follow! Once I hit 100k I am doing a giveaway of ChrisFix swag with 7,000 winners!!!

  2. 30 degrees on the left wheel when turning to the right, and 25 degrees when turning to the left… how is this possible?! Shouldn't the turning angle of the wheel be more, like 35-40 degrees when turning to the left, because the radius of curvature of the inner wheel is obviously less than the outer wheels? What kind of upside-down Ackerman steering mechanism is in the Foxbody (correction: SN95) Mustang?

  3. Noooooo, those spacers are there for a reason ( in some cars can be dangerous to remove them) the steering rack and the tie rods have their own geometry and can get stuck without the spacers. Also in some steering racks the pinion can get stuck when it runs out of teets in the rack and the spacers prevent it from that. Make shure you get a decent angle kit for that kind of needs

  4. Man I wish I knew about this back when I had my 04 Volvo S60. I loved that car, it had an amazing interior and probably still the most comfortable seats I've ever sat it. That was a great vehicle, but wow the turn radius for a semi sporty looking sedan was atrocious. I have no idea how they made it that bad, but having to make 3 point turns constantly when driving in hectic downtown traffic was not fun.

But I have to say, those are really nice cars outside of that. Especially if you get a turbo'd AWD variant with a manual. I bought some nice leather barstools off Craigslist one time from a mechanic who worked on a lot of Volvo's. He was telling me about how much metal they have in the frame of the car. He was saying he had never seen one roll through the shop with the frame bent around the cab significantly bent inwards. Meaning even in a crazy crash, they will keep anything in the cabin from collapsing. But yeah, awful awful turn radius lmao.
