How To Replace a Water Pump and Save $783 – Everything Law and Order Blog

Water pump replacement DIY. Learn how to replace a water pump at home using common hand tools. I was able to easily replace this water pump in under an hour and saved $783.

Replacing the water pump on many cars is not difficult and this is a perfect example of an easy to replace water pump. You could do this entire job without any special tools and I spent under $60 in parts which is unbelievable after getting the $843 quote from the Jaguar dealership. I will also do a video on a more difficult water pump so you can see what is involved in that as well.

Thanks PEAK for the coolant product placement in this video!

  1. For daily updates, definitely follow me on Instagram: Instagram.com/ChrisFixit
The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed!
P.S. Here is a link to the first every DIY video I did on my channel to help people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTl6UNMKjLc

  2. That price has got to be a joke… I just had my water pump done at a garage and it was £150 all together including the part

  3. At least your car had an easy access water pump my Subaru’s water pump is inside an aluminum timing cover Smh. So it’s a timing job I just might have to spend that $850 the timing bolts are also stripped fml.

  4. Don't even think about doing this on a Ford Escape. You have to remove the time chain to access one of the bolts and use a special tool. It's a five hour job.

  5. hey chris, wanted to have u opinion on a 2005 acura tl for my first car. it’s pretty high on miles with 188k and the dealer says it’s been well maintained and people say tls can push well over 200k miles without major issues

  6. Thank you so much for all your effort making these videos Chris. It's perfection at it's best.

You must just remember to take a break as well. You go through so much trouble for us, your fans/subscribers and we appreciate it, but we don't want you to burn out. So take that break, go do something that you enjoy, like fishing or so, and when you come back, we will be here waiting 😊

You make such a positive difference in each of our lives, and we see your effort and we appreciate it ❤

  7. I just recently replaved my waterpump on my mazda b4000 and ita still leaking in the same spot im asuming potentially a bad gasket or I didn't clean the surface good enough next time i replave it should i put some rtv in the corner with the paper gasket? I know you say not too but i figured it would better to be safe than sorry to have to tear it down a 3rd time.

  8. Hi there,

I wanted to reach out and let you know how much I enjoy watching your videos. They have been a great help to my guy and me as we work on my 2006 Ford Mustang. We have a quick question about replacing the water pump, which comes with a metal gasket. The manual recommends putting RTV on the gasket, but you advise against it, as it could result in having 2 gaskets, making it redundant. We would appreciate your recommendation on what to do. My car is a 2006 Ford Mustang V6, and we plan to do the work this weekend. Thank you for all your helpful videos, which have saved us a lot of money by allowing us to do the work ourselves.

  9. Hi Chris I love your videos. You are a role model. I have a question for you. Here in Nigeria majority of the drivers uses water instead of coolant. I want to know if it is a good or bad ideas to use only water instead of coolant.

  10. Hmm me again
Ive recently did a radiator flush everything was working fine
Now engine overheating ive try bleeding the system but still overhead
Thought debris cloged up the thermostat but no since the upper radiator hose is Hot this surely means the thermostat is working
However i cant check the lower hose since its close to the engine i might burn myself
Now im seeing some leaks near the pump and weird noise
So im pretty sure that the water pump is causing an overheat

  11. Oh, now that's the reason why these bolts have such dots on them, so that you know which one you have already tightened to spec. I was wondering about these dots…. 😀

  12. 40$ Chinese water pump in a jaguar 😂😂 as a mechanic 800$ Being replaced at the dealer with a oem jaguar water pump and including coolant isnt bad at all I bet if you bought a oem pump for that car half of that 800 is just buying a quality pump but go ahead and think you saved 700$ and the dealer was scamming you

  13. Of course, my water pump broke on the highway and I didn't have the tools but if I did this would be a great video and will definitely use this before it breaks down again so I can avoid being stranded again

  14. Do you have to remove extra fluid after using that funnel? Seems like it would be too high or does it purge excess itself?
