Ralph has been missing since May 16, suffers from dementia, and has not had his memory or heart medication since he left his home in Cornelius, Oregon.

His daughter, Laurie Saunders, said during a news conference that she spoke with her father the night he went missing shortly after 9pm and that he wasn’t sure exactly where he was.

He told her he was “literally in the bushes,” and that he might be near a golf course, but couldn’t give her more specific details. He also asked if people were out looking for him.

She told him to wait for a call from his son, who was going to go out and find him, but Brown didn’t answer the phone after that. And nobody has been able to find him, even though hundreds of people out there helping with the search.

This series documents Adventures With Purpose’s multi-day search for Ralph.

Brown is 76 years old, about 5-foot-10, with white hair and blue eyes. He’s also missing the tip of his index finger.

His car is a dark blue, 2014 Nissan Sentra with Oregon plates.

Anyone who sees him or his car is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503-629-0111

There have been a few sightings reported, but none were substantiated, said Daryle Brown, Ralph Brown’s son.

Daryle said his parents were in their home on May 16 when Brown stood up and said he was going to his “other house.”

Ralph has early-onset Alzheimer’s symptoms, which leads to confusion. He no longer has a driver’s license and has not driven a car in more than a year, Daryle said.

He drove away from the home in the 600 block of South 12th Avenue in Cornelius, Oregon.

There have been no location pings on his phone after 10:25pm that evening, and no communication from Brown in the time since he’s been missing.

There have also been no charges to his credit card.

More than 200 volunteers are still helping in the search, including former students, friends, and even strangers.

Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.

We are humbled by the opportunity all of you have given us to help in the search for answers as to what happened to Ralph.

  2. What make me happy is that you guys doing what your doing and finding lost love ones who have been missing for years or just months is so amazing

  3. I think maybe he's in the woods lost because the case where the lady left her bothers house from Flordia and she turned off in the woods in Alabama, just a thought?????

  4. One of the fish finder companies makes a fishing bobber which is a sonar depth finder. The idea is to hook it to a rod and reel and cast it.

What if you were to hook it to a length of line under a droan? Provisions would have to be made to Ray the fairly short range signal, perhaps wifi or a cell phone? You get a remote dipping sonar depth finder.

The use would be to access some of the small and remote ponds. This would quickly eliminate the shallow ponds or qualify the deeper ones for a better look.

Coordinated with data loger functions you would also have a crude bottom map.

  5. In a way, it's not so surprising that you'd find things that aren't on Google maps.Rural areas may not get new satellite photos for a couple years or so. Like where I live. The satellite photo of our house is at least two years old.

  6. Is there data somewhere to support the statement “dementia patients overwhelmingly travel Southeastward when missing”? Serious question. I tried to google but found nothing.

  7. At 0:40 there’s a car sized shape I can’t tell if it’s a silver object, or light reflecting off the surface But there’s something on that big square pond

  8. My mother passed from dementia and towards sunset, or the end of the day it gets worse. It's known as "Sundowners". I've never read that they traveled in a certain direction. Towards the end, she was back home with her mother, father and siblings. If things haven't changed too much where he grew up and it's in the same area it a possibility that he may have gone back, or tried to go to his childhood home. It's a horrible illness for the elderly and hard for the family that is living. I pray that he's found so that the family has closure.

  9. 10 weeks with no medication, I dont think he is still going to be driving, hes gonna need cash for fuel, I'm sorry but i dont think hes with us anymore, hope he can be found to give his family closure.

  10. Where is my merchandise????????? LOL But its been weeks!!!! If I don't get it well ,great cause. I now have the equipment too do some sonar work in northern, MI. Your group has pulled me out of a horrible place my mind, has been in due to the loss of my paramedic position. My calling ended in a violent ambulance crash. & more tragedy seemed like It was going too be me you may have been looking for me.
Bless your group and your family's ! In these trying times you are refreshing .

  11. Hey jared you should ask that guy with the air plane to fly over that lady's property that has that car hiding in her woods that she won't let nobody go look at to see if it's randy's mom's car

  12. As someone who had a parent with dementia, I did some research on wandering by people with dementia.

One of the elements covered was if the person went missing while driving. Although some drivers are capable of refilling their gas tank ;”(as Ralph did), as they become more stressed and anxious, they might not be able to do it again and then run out of gas. Once they run out of gas they almost always continue on foot.

The articles recommended that if the vehicle is located, searchers should search within a 5 mile radius of the vehicle.

Another factor in not finding the person is that it is assumed that the person will go to familiar places. However, as stress and anxiety rises, their ability to remember or recognize familiar places decreases. And many people lost outside the 5 mile radius of their community will often, contrary to what we think they would to, find someplace to hide… in brush, in abandoned buildings, under bridges and in culverts. Those in the countryside will often, rather than seek open spaces, will head deep into the underbrush… even hide under fallen leaves. They also more often than not do not respond to someone calling their name or call out when they hear someone nearby.

I was reading the findings of a study that included statistics of where people were found, what factors were involved, if they were alone or with someone (a surprising number go missing when in the company of a caregiver or wandering off after being dropped off right in front of their house instead of being accompanied inside). And whether someone is known to wander or has never wandered, has no bearing on the likelihood of their wandering.

    Hope this helps.

  13. It's very true about the South East travel. My Dad had Alzheimers and we found that he traveled from Anaheim CA to Newport Beach, CA.
