Night vision is the ability to see in low light conditions. A night vision device (NVD), also known as a night optical/observation device (NOD), is an optoelectronic device that allows images to be produced in levels of light approaching total darkness. The image may be a conversion to visible light of both visible light and near-infrared, while by convention detection of thermal infrared is denoted thermal imaging. The image produced is typically monochrome, e.g. shades of green. NVDs are most often used by the military and law enforcement agencies, but are available to civilian users.

Anybody ever wonder about tracers appearing to be traveling quite slowly? With ballistics speeds around 2200 mph, it's hard to grasp that tracers are traveling anywhere near that speed. If you watch the tail gunner around 8:05, the rounds are lightning-quick….. if there were tracers in his ammo belt they'd be just as quick as their neighboring rounds.
Maybe it's an optical phenomenon due to the frame rate of the camera; (30 frames per second in video, 24 fps in film) like in Westerns, the stage coach on full steam ahead and the wheels are turning backward)…….
