A live-fire training with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and U.S. Marines as part of Exercise Iron Fist. Iron Fist is an amphibious exercise that brings together U.S. Marines and sailors and soldiers from the JGSDF, to promote military interoperability and hone individual and small-unit skills through challenging, complex and realistic training.
Sniper training and firing mortar systems during exercise Northern Viper. The Marines and JGSDF worked together to strengthen their knowledge of the different methods of firing mortar systems.
Training like this enhanced the service members joint-capabilities and allowed them to share different techniques and tactics. Northern Viper is a large scale exercise that has many bilateral training opportunities that help strengthen the capabilities of the United States and the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force
