Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) may have been slow to catch up, but it is finally making strides to stay competitive in the evolving telecom landscape. The state-owned telecom operator has rolled out a new feature for its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers- a national Wi-Fi roaming service.
This service allows BSNL FTTH customers to seamlessly connect to Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, providing them with high-speed internet even when they’re away from home. The initiative is designed to enhance connectivity and reduce data costs for users while they travel, offering them access to an expanding network of BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots without any additional charges.
How does BSNL’s Wi-Fi roaming service work?
The new Wi-Fi roaming service is available exclusively to BSNL FTTH users and is accessible through the company’s network of Wi-Fi hotspots across India. Once registered, users can easily find and connect to the “BSNLWiFi_Roaming” network wherever they go. The process is simple:
- Visit the registration link: BSNL FTTH Wi-Fi Roaming Portal.
- Register for the “BSNLWiFi_Roaming” service.
- Search for available hotspots in your area, labelled as “BSNLWiFi_Roaming.”
- Select the network from your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Enter the credentials (username and password) sent via SMS.
- Connect and start browsing without worrying about extra charges.
This means that users no longer need to rely on costly mobile data when visiting locations with BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots, such as cafes, malls, public areas, or offices. For instance, a frequent traveller between Delhi and Bangalore can now stay connected to high-speed internet without incurring extra charges, simply by connecting to BSNL’s Wi-Fi hotspots.
In addition to Wi-Fi roaming, BSNL has also unveiled new IFT TV service, which provides fibre-based live TV streaming with over 500 channels. Importantly, data usage for IFTV streaming is separate from the user’s FTTH data quota, allowing for uninterrupted viewing.
