Tennessee Tech officials announced Saturday morning that an “isolated incident involving a student on campus” prompted a response from emergency personnel.
The Herald-Citizen was able to confirm that a suicide happened Saturday morning on A Street, which is between Dixie Avenue and North Peachtree Avenue. A Street is where Johnson, Pennebaker and Foster halls are located.
The name of the individual involved in the suicide was not released Saturday morning.
The Herald-Citizen has contacted the Cookeville Police Department to find out more information about what happened hours before the university’s homecoming football game at 1:30 p.m. The homecoming parade usually travels in front of the Roaden University Center on Dixie Avenue.
“Students, faculty and staff: Early this morning there was an isolated incident involving a student on campus prompting a response from emergency personnel, who continue to carry out their investigation,” reads a statement from the university. “Please note that modifications will be made to the homecoming parade route to allow investigators to continue their work. The route will continue down Dixie Avenue as originally planned but will now make a left turn onto West 7th Street at The Varsity Building and continue down West 7th Street before making a right turn onto Stadium Drive.
“As this investigation continues, our Center for Counseling and Mental Health Wellness is on standby,” the statement continues. “The university’s Eagle Eye Crisis Hotline is available to students 24/7 at 855-206-8997.”
