15 Key Moments from Alec Baldwin’s Manslaughter Trial Opening Statements – Everything Law and Order Blog

Alec Baldwin is standing trial for involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Prosecutors allege Baldwin pulled the trigger of the gun that fired the live round that hit Hutchins and film director Joel Souza. In their opening statement, the prosecution said Baldwin was “playing make-believe” when he allegedly fired the prop gun on the set of his movie “Rust.” Baldwin’s defense fired back, claiming Baldwin never pulled the trigger and was just doing his job as an actor. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down 15 key moments from opening statements as Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter trial kicks off.

  1. Finding out how and why that live round was brought to the set was something the prosecutor and police investigators have so conveniently overlooked.

  2. Does the prosecutor actually believe herself…shameful…Did Baldwin hire handler…NO…. I’m confused prosecutor going on and on about him handling the gun as was his job…maybe if he had been informed that an incompetent weapon handler possibly under the influence also a possibility he’d may have double checked the armorer this would require 20/20 vision which isn’t possible…Please remember this involves the lose of someone’s love…

  3. Unfortunately, defense's theory just makes me think about a quote I've heard about method acting, paraphrasing "curiously, you never hear how an actor does nice things as part of their "method acting" " (it was in reference to some actor sending his costars dead rats or something, claiming he's getting into character by method acting).

  4. how do we know if the gun was capable of functioning? because it was a brand new, modern replica with modern safety features like a safety stop a couple millimeters after the hammer is drawn back and a floating firing pin.

  5. is the defense trying to tell us baldwin was so wrapped up in make believe he couldnt see real world dangers? really? then lock him up as being too dangerous for society lol.

  6. I'm not an American, and I don't have a dog in this fight, but looking objectively at it, and not swayed by personal feelings towards Baldwin, I have a question. If a firearms expert hands a gun to an actor on set, it would be reasonable for that actor to assume the gun was safe. Why would he be expected to stop what he's doing and independently check the gun? He's got his job to do, and would expect that the armorer had done hers. Am I missing something?

  7. Trump fans tuning in to make up fake ideas, the purpose of a prop master and armory tech is to check and hand it to the actor on a set, its not his job to check for blank bullets. Yall really need to get a GED, same people will support jan 6 lmao loosers

  8. The fact that they were using a real gun that fires live Ammo proves he is guilty of murder movie prop guns will not fire live ammunition they will not fit in the gun

  9. In this case he did not follow gun safety check procedures, thus was negligent and reckless. Had he followed the gun safety check procedures he has been trained to do before pointing a gun at someone on set the young lady would be alive today. The prosecutor is correct.

  10. Anyone who handles a gun needs to be aware of how to be safe and check for themselves if you are a responsible person… not throw the blame on others.

  11. Throwing some questions out there……. Are actors supposed to check if a car's breaks are working? Are actors supposed to check if the bottle of 'acid' has water in it or real acid? Are actors supposed to check if the liquid on the floor is flammable before throwing in the matches? Are the actors supposed to check if the dynamite is real or fake? etc…

Think for a moment on different scenarios where props could kill other people.

How many actors haven't had accidents or even lost their own lives because a prop was not safe? It's not on the actors to check if the props are safe. That is why there are multiple professionals in charge of those props!

  12. He was thinking about everything but the gun and wants to confuse us to the same point and muddy the issue that the gun is the only thing he should be thinking about…the very reason he would argue that is the problem…thats all that you think about until you clear it the life threatening deadly weapon in your hand your about to point at someone and pull the trigger. And according to you is either going to do nothing or go off with a cold blank your not sure what will happen when you pull the trigger but we need to understand there was alot you were thinking about besides safety of the life you are risking with a REAL STEEL point and shoot??????????

  13. The basic rules of safety are not suspended just because you are on a movie set. There is no question of who was in control when Ms. Hutchens died.

  14. 3:56 he had somebody filming him while he ran around, shooting the gun… you mean like on a movie set? Really lady? You make it sound like he’s playing cops and robbers with his beer buddies.. He was filming a movie.

  15. Any resonable gun owner thats had single actions know dude pulled the trigger or he had the trigger depressed when he feathered the hammer.

  16. I just always wonder why there’s not been much talk about really investigating where a live round came from and the girl that took evidence and threw it away. Why hasn’t anything happened with her and why did she do that?

  17. I’m kinda on Alec’s side he was just doing his job maybe needed a lesson on gun safety but there being live bullets in the gun wasn’t his responsibility. Case and point

  18. It doesn't matter if the gun was full of live rounds because guns don't kill people all by themselves. From what I understand the situation did not call for the trigger to be pulled but Baldwin pulled that trigger anyway. Why???

  19. What if an actor was driving a car in a scene and mishandled the vehicle resulting in the deaths of other actors, crew, etc… Does any responsibility fall on the actor behind the wheel, or does the prop/mechanic shoulder the burden of responsibility?
