The lives of Clayton, Chase, and Hunter Doerman were taken in a matter of minutes. Since that time, Doerman has claimed he was mentally ill at the time of the shooting and he’s asked to be spared the death penalty. There has been other cases where I believe the death penalty should have been removed and wasn’t. Here it should apply no questions asked.

The fact that he said 'just kidding/I'm playing around' is what should negate any mental illness defence. He can't argue pathology because he knew the long term right and wrong with that statement to soothe the soon to be victims and he can't argue temporary because he stopped, and then went back for the gun when he knew he could.
He was in a psychotic state . I think it is very clear in this case of this horrific act

Chad isn't mentally ill! He's just hot tempered. Luckily he received life imprisonment with no parole. It's either that or the death penalty, so either way, justice has been served. Thank Heaven's!

the mom didnt try to save anyone, no 911 call, she could have done alot more to stop him grabbing anything to jump on him, hit him with something, before chaseing him around as he killed 3 kids, if he was acting weird why didnt she grab the kids and leave, and now she hasnt spoke out on this at all and his hideing, saying shes greiving something doesnt sound right about her story, and now shes in hideing..
The death penalty was written for people just like him.

I don’t know why people are assuming that the courts will even consider this. Every defense attorney tries this garbage when the death penalty is on the line. The only way anyone may avoid jail by reason from mental illness is when there is irrefutable evidence that they didn’t know right from wrong when committing the crime. He has no history of psychosis and used the Bible as reference. He purposely avoided killing his wife.
