Acid trip between friends ends in campground murder – Everything Law and Order Blog

In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: Camping trips can create lasting memories and bond friends forever, but one such trip went horribly wrong.

In August 2015, Trevor Holminski and his best friend, 23-year-old Sheldon Steward, went to the woods in Northern California for a camping trip. Trevor planned on joining the Marines, and the friends wanted quality time together before he left for training.

On August 22, 2015, firefighters responded to a brush fire at Bucks Lake and found Sheldon clinging to life with several stab wounds on his neck. Then, in a nearby fire pit, firefighters discovered Trevor’s body. Investigators set up a murder investigation all while firemen were trying to extinguish the blaze in the forest.

Sheldon later told detectives he and Trevor dropped acid and smoked marijuana, then Trevor made unwanted sexual advances on him. Sheldon claimed Trevor stabbed him, and the two fought for control of the knife. He said he likely stabbed Trevor in the arm during the altercation, but Trevor up and left after that.

Detectives didn’t buy Sheldon’s story completely. They believed Sheldon’s knife wounds in his neck were superficial, and he did them to himself. Sheldon eventually confessed to killing Trevor and leaving his body in the fire pit.

Sheldon was convicted in August 2017 of first-degree murder and arson and sentenced to 26 years to life. He appealed his conviction, but in 2019, a California appeals court upheld the original ruling.

Let’s look back at the tragic case of two friends whose camping trip was supposed to be a time of bonding but ended in total brutality.

  1. ask urself: how many ppl do u know who u would u ever want to b alone with for a whole weekend, in the middle of nowhere?… much less drop 20 hits of acid out there with them. cmon, its a recipe for disaster. ur just asking for a wreck, accident, fire, or in their case a raging fight

  2. I doubt these people actually had pure lsd the vast majority of which is actually meth based that gives a few colors and patterns nothing like true lsd at all ,lsd is orderless, colorless, tasteless, the mafia garbage is bitter just like meth,I’m sorry for all involved it’s heartbreaking

  3. The person thats dies is always in I quote a good and happy person. When thats not always the case. Fbi and judges paint a picture and a scene and go with it. Sometime people are found innocent years later. The truth is no ones the truth, but the two that were there. They were both on drugs. Both are in the wrong.

  4. What a senseless killing. Unfortunately it kinda just sounds like it was too much LSD and he couldn't handle it. I've seen people think they were dead or dying while tripping! It's not for everyone.
Rest in peace inspiration, talented, and dedicated young Trevor. I hope your family can find their own peace.

  5. If I got a $1 for every perpetrator who claimed that a buddy was trying making sexual advances to them, so they had to go into self-defense mode, I'd be rich. Do we even know if they were high on drugs. Taking 20 'blotter papers' and they'd both be thinking were washing machines. I think Sheldon may have been jealous of Trevor. Thankfully everyone saw through his B/S. RIP Trevor. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

  6. A good friend wouldn’t sabotage you by enticing you to do drugs! Then kill you! Jealousy is real and watch the company you keep. So sad and he would’ve done so well in life 😢
