Actor Alec Baldwin was filming the movie “Rust” in New Mexico in 2021 when the gun he was holding fired, shooting a live round. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed. Set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was recently found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting. Baldwin’s legal team has now filed paperwork to have the actor’s indictment thrown out. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down the legal filings with criminal defense attorney Natalie Whittingham Burrell.

  1. It's a shame Carrie Morrisey did such a poor job in the armoror trial. Tediously long rambling lines of questioning and an unattractive style. She may additionally have gifted an undeserved advantage to the Baldwin camp if found to have slipped up procedurally.

  2. Topical Baldwin things there better superior and above everyone else even the law the whole family is an absolute joke …

  3. He jokes somebody and he just wants to walk away. Then he beats the crap out of some woman two weeks ago. He’s still free

  4. Alec Baldwin pointed a firearm and pulled the trigger on this woman .
That is aggravated assault followed by manslaughter minimum.
Because he is a rich Schill for the Democrats he might be innocent?

  5. Referring to 15:10 in this segment. The FBI caused a failure of the weapon (it firing) that was only possible by destroying the weapon to make it fire. Ergo, it appears Alec Baldwin lied and his defense has misrepresented the FBI’s findings.

  6. The state's response is absolutely epic. A lot of these opinions seem to have aged like milk. Left in the sun. For 3 weeks.

  7. It is not the actors responsibility to check the gun, 2 people were in place for exactly that!
We are not walking in his shoes, we cannot judge him, for this situation he finds himself in……

  8. He is not accepting that HE pulled the trigger. HE was careless and reckless. Why the armor was charged is beyond me. She asked for help. They were cutting costs. Alec pulled the trigger recklessly.

  9. The FBI modified that 44 breaking it repairing the colt that is tampering with evidence, and with a cooperating expert shooting investigator witness smells like double team spirit. A director and or producer as well the cast crew must never be directly in front of any prop gun even rehearsing. Actors and all other persons on set should know guns must be assumed to be live at all times for best practices.

  10. the whole Baldwin family are an entitled, use their money to pay off stuff like this and he needs to take responsibility for changing the script on his own and pulled the trigger without anyone knowing! He's careless cheap and it would be just better than blaming everyone including the victim for something he was directly involved with…….. list all little respect I still may have had for that man/family!

  11. I have no opinion whatsover about Alec Baldwin as a person. Don't know him, never met him. However, speaking objectively, I am quite certain he would NEVER have been charged in this tragedy if he were not a Producer. Being a Producer carries a whole different level of culpability and responsibility. The egregious mishandling of firearms on this movie location has been well established. Baldwin's role as a Producer would have included responsibilty for the safety of cast and crew. As such he is fully responsible, and criminally liable for the death and injury that occurred. On that basis, I have no doubt he will be tried and convicted.

In some states, there is a Depraved Indifference statute on the books that could elevate this crime to 1st or 2nd degree murder. He should count himself lucky this didn't happen in, say, New York.

  12. Baldwin was negligent in his actions, any time your are handed a firearm it is your duty and yours alone to ensure that the firearm is safe and you have inspected that firearm to make certain that it is indeed safe. The firearm could only discharge if the trigger was pulled, and the only person who was able to pull the trigger of that firearm was Baldwin.

  13. Regarding Baldwin shooting the gun after the director called "CUT" – this feel this is reaching a bit for the prosecution because… he was running up a hill, firing the gun, running some more, firing again & he was quite a distance away ~ who's to say he even heard "CUT"?? I can’t remember if he or the young man were yelling/talking as they were "trying to get away" but if so, that could also interfere with Baldwin hearing this one simple word from that far away. JMO but I think this is just a moment the state is trying to stack on to make it look worse.

  14. imo, the armorer is ultimately responsible for gun safety. regardless of how bad Baldwins behavior was on set. it was her responsibility to make sure the gun was safe to use. it wasn't. Baldwin still should've checked that weapon, but unless there is some written law I'm unaware of an actor is expected to be handed a weapon that's safe to use in the scene that's being done. I dislike Baldwin and believe he's accountable for some things that happened on set, but I don't think an actor should be responsible. that's what they hire a safety team and armorer for.

  15. Hes partly culpable as a producer, but this comment thread is pretty ridiculous. You all are going to be so disappointed with how this plays out.
