In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: It takes a certain type of person to gain the moniker “The Angel of Death,” and Genene Jones certainly earned it.
Genene worked as a pediatric nurse at a hospital in San Antonio, and soon enough, several children in her care became extremely sick. In fact, ten of them died. Her time on duty became known as the “Death Shift,” and when she quit the San Antonio hospital, the “Death Shift” ceased to exist.
But when Genene moved on to another hospital in Kerrville, Texas, similar events started occurring once again.
It all came crashing down in 1982 when Genene gave 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan a strong muscle relaxer. After Genene gave her a second dose of the relaxer, the little girl died.
Medical tests showed Chelsea had traces of succinylcholine in her system, and Genene was arrested for murder and injury to a child. In 1984, she was sentenced to 99 years in prison for Chelsea’s death and 60 years for a similar case from her San Antonio hospital.
She was scheduled to be released from prison in 2018 due to a law about overcrowding in prisons, but prosecutors in San Antonio wanted to prevent that at all costs.
In 2017, Genene was charged with killing five other children who ranged in age from three months to 2 years old. Three years later, in 2020, she pleaded guilty to killing 11-month-old Joshua Sawyer and was sentenced to life in prison. The other four death cases were dropped as part of the plea deal.
It’s believed Genene’s actions killed somewhere between 40 to 60 babies, but the exact number remains a mystery.
Let’s look back at the case of a nurse who brought more harm than anyone could have imagined.

On the Forensic Files post, one of Genene's former cellmates said that Genene has no remorse for what she did and is still an awful person to be around. Thank goodness they had prosecutors who cared enough to keep this monster behind bars (which they succeeded)

You know what I would of said once she said she did nothing wrong. I would of said ok, proof is in the eye of the beholder. I would of strapped her down and Saud this is the same medication you gave those babies, the dose is for your age and weight, plus a lil extra for Pete sake. Let's see wt happens to you after a dose.

I suspect that either the nurse or physician, who was in charge of my infant daughter (Miya Jane Justeson 2/23/2007-3/18/2007) killed her at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL with an overdose of FENTANYL and KCl IV drip, in addition to, possibly something else that was done ! I am still trying to figure this out 15 years later, while trying to dodge being victimized further by vehicles trying to hit me, illegal entries, theft, illegal cell phone infiltration, destruction of property, mail fraud/tampering, trying to steal my personal information, and other horrible crimes (human torture) ! The financial abuse, psychological abuse and physical crimes have been OUT of CONTROL !

That first hospital has to accept some responsibility for the children who died after she left them. They had an internal enquiry which raised to possibility that she killed those children but absolutely no action was taken to prevent her simply moving to another hospital???
The fact that when she realized she wouldn't be close enough to babies to be able to kill them– she quits.

I’ve called SAT home since the Army brought our family here in the late ‘60’s, I’ve loved growing up here & proud to be a Texan but when this woman brought such overwhelming sadness & extreme harm & death to our babies, let’s just say she’ll be safer in prison …..
