The asshole knew he was facing the rest of his life in prison and knowing that he was going to face the victim that got away from him. In this scumbag's mind, he was not going to allow her to get the closure by facing her. So, of course he took the cowards way out. He wasn't going to face what he had done, nor give her the satisfaction! But he failed, because his family found out what a piece of shit he really was!
