A baby-faced Ivy League student once faced charges on a sensational crime. Did Charlie Tan really kill his dad, or was he protecting the true murderer? Though this case has been dismissed, Tan is now facing new charges. He was nabbed while crossing the Canadian border into the U.S. for a wedding. Crime Watch Daily’s Michelle Sigona has the story.

  1. These stupid lawyers actually sent little Charlie to prison for 20 years 😅. Any sensible lawyers would have advised Charlie to plea deal in the first trial and get a much shorter sentence. It’s such a simple and clear murder.

  2. When he fimes up for paroke, they're gonna say,"You got away with shotgunning your father in the face. You're gonna do at KEAST 18. Your judge who wrongky helped you, ain't gonna help you this time. NEXT!!"

  3. A body has been deceased, they lie,son buys a gun,and they leave.; and no one is charged-BIULLSHIT….I have a cousin serving 86yrs for being at a party with 5 others ,1 shot and killed a Ball State University student-they're all serving massive sentences. They run his company. If you're being abused, you don't have to hide shit!!! I can't say what a person deserves,,God has the final say. But the Good Book says; he who sheds blood will receive the same, recompense..As a criminal justice employee,I've never seen anyone receive this grace with those events occurring in a crime. If you don't like My comment,I truly don't care- everyone is entitled to their own opinion

  4. Charlie is a COWARD. Couldn't stand up to his dad and fight. A real man takes care of it. Charlie is getting raped in prison right now!!! Gets his mom to take the blame. COWARD. This is a planned murder. The mom should be in prison also. She lied to police and filed a false police report. She also disturbed a murder scene.

  5. I understand that Charlie loves his mom and took the blame, but how his mom could let him sacrifice his future for her? No mother would do that. It is usually the other way around where the mother would admit to everything to protect her son if her son really did it. Idk

  6. Well, we will never know the whole story. Maybe there’s money behind it, maybe there r something else behind it. It doesn’t seem like a passion crime, that’s for sure.

  7. Of course he accepted a plea deal… 95% of inmates are given a plea deal to avoid facing a jury and going to trial. The US doesnt have the resources to give everyone a trial. It's pretty sad, especially for the tens of thousands of people who are incarcerated despite being innocent.. but in order to take a plea, you must admit guilt, and the reason so many people who are innocent do that is because they'd do anything to get out of jail, even if that means admitting to a crime they didnt do.

This system needs to change. There are way too many people who do time for something they didn't do, just so prosecutors can convict someone for a case. Since their higher ups want cases to be closed, a conviction, even if it's wrong, happens more often than not.

Not saying Tan is innocent, although his case having a mistrial and then being dismissed is a very rare happening in the US.

  8. You can tell the judge dismissed the trial because he felt compassionate towards the familys situation. Some may say its wrong to think tht way but what is the boundaries of heart to heart. the evidence is clear either the son or mom had done it. the son clearly confessed, if the prosecution would push a little bit farther the case prob wouldnt have been last by charlie. but the judge sympathized with the family thats been abused.
