Most people understand and accept that citizens have a constitutional right to record video of interactions with police officers, at this point – in general. Law enforcement has fought that every step of the way, of course. But is there a right to “livestream” encounters with police officers? More specifically, does a passenger of a vehicle detained at a traffic stop have a constitutional right to livestream the encounter from his cell phone?

  1. I am old enough to remember this when the government started placing cameras in public spaces. "If you don't have anything to hide, what are you worried about?"

  2. Working as a Police Officer is 27th relating to being a dangerous job. So there are 26 other occupations that are more dangerous than being a cop. Also cops have no greater expectation of privacy while out in public, than anyone else does. Their job, which they signed a contract to do, which includes being financially compensated to put themselves at risk, does not give them any kind of expectation of privacy while performing that job. They are not special, but seem to get treated as if they are.

  3. Ya, I get it! Someone could find the location of an officer from livestream. Also, an alien could land his spacecraft on top of the car and out comes Bigfoot riding a unicorn. It could happen, let’s worry about what is possible. Another more likely possibility is the citizen could get a recording of a police officer doing something illegal!

  4. Fragile little COPS! What do they always say along with stupid people, if you ain’t doing anything wrong what’s the big deal? Well COPS do your jobs correctly so what’s the big deal?

  5. Have there even been any instances of anyone seeing a livestream of a police interaction, figuring out exactly where it's happening, going there, and attempting to interfere or attack the cops? Because that seems like something super unlikely to happen.

  6. This subject begs the question. How many times has the police confiscated and deleted video to hide there crimes. We all see how the act even when they are being recorded.

  7. Don’t tell anyone your live streaming, problem solved. Also if the officer is concerned about safety, don’t delay the stop giving people time to show up.

  8. You know full well the risks when you become a cop and if it is too dangerous for you then don't do the job the excuse of "muh safety" is not enough when you know it's dangerous and it does not trump people's rights.

  9. If he is doing nothing wrong as a public agent he can’t doing thing about it but he dose not worry. This may prevent him from escalating to beating tasing or murder.

  10. That judge and these cops are plum pathetic, and they're going against the constitution, hell they cant do that,,,lock someone up for livestreaming, this ain't N. KOREA

  11. So with the dawn of the information era, people are now able to see under the belly of the beast. Every evil that world governments have been thriving on at the expense of the people….has been revealed….and this is very very ugly.
