DNA on wine bottle leads to arrest years after college student found dead in apartment – Everything Law and Order Blog

In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: Nineteen-year-old Faith Hedgepeth had everything going for her. She was a bright student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and on her way to becoming the first in her family to graduate from college.

Then, one night in September 2012, the college sophomore’s future was taken away in the blink of an eye.

At around midnight on September 7, 2012, Faith and her roommate Karena Rosario met up with some friends at a local bar. Around 2:30 a.m., Karena felt sick so the two headed home. Karena then left their apartment at approximately 4:30 a.m. with a friend, and when she got back at 11 a.m., Faith was dead.

Faith had been beaten to death. She was found hanging off her bed, naked from the waist down with her shirt pulled up. Investigators found DNA evidence at the scene, including semen on Faith’s body.

Detectives questioned several people and took DNA samples, but nothing ever came back as a match. The case went cold.

In 2014, Chapel Hill Police released new information about Faith’s murder, including a note written on a paper bag left next to her body that said, “I’m not stupid bitch jealous.”

Then, a major break in the case happened in September 2021 when police arrested Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares. Saluerro Police linked Miguel to Faith’s killing using DNA from a rape kit, a palm print left on a wine bottle and the paper bag with the note on it.

Miguel is incarcerated at the Durham County Jail on a first-degree murder charge and is being held without bond.

  1. I believe Corena set it up i dont think she ever left the complex that's why she did not lock the door. She intentionally left it open so Miguel can walk in and comit the crime and corena was there when it happen. She waited hours later to call the police to try and throw the police off as if she just got home. CH police officers is slow asf matter of fact all southern states police officers are slow and lazy and unhelpful. Case could have been solved the same year of Faith death. Smh God sees everything all dark came to light years ago but CH police to blind to see it or dont care to see it. Corena and whoeva else involved got their day coming. Trust 💯 RIP Faith. ❤❤

  2. So Crime Watch Daily got a voice recording analysis that, according to them, showed a group of people beat Faith. They played it without knowing it was correct, for the family to listen too which was heartbreaking for them and now one man, who had no connection to the people you were trying to say were responsible has been arrested. Talk about unnecessary trauma for the family and you didn't even have the right perpetrator. Just irresponsible sensationalism. You said virtually nothing about that man they have charged and just made it all about the horrible details of Faith's death. Shame on you!

  3. I don't think that recording has anything to do with the murder. This guy they arrested has been in jail for 2 years and there hasn't been a word about when there will be a trial. From what I have been able to find out he didn't graduate from school and then moved to the USA. I doubt he knew how to write that well in English. He supposedly spelled jealous correctly which is a fairly common misspelled word. I hope the right person pays for what they did.

  4. The arrest was made Thursday morning without incident. The subject, Miguel Enrique Salguero-Olivares, 28, of Durham, is being charged with first-degree murder. Salguero-Olivares is being held in the Durham County Jail with no bond.
