DOJ Finds that Pennsylvania Courts Discriminated Against People with “Opioid Use Disorder” – Everything Law and Order Blog

The Disability Rights Section of the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division sent a letter to the Pennsylvania State Court System, advising them that following an investigation, several of their county court systems were found to have violated federal disability discrimination laws. I just happened to come across this and hadn’t seen it in the news anywhere. But this seems important. This has been happening in West Virginia for years, and no doubt is happening across the country.

The Justice Department found that the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania, through the actions of its component courts, violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by prohibiting or limiting the use of disability-related medication to treat Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) by individuals under court supervision.

  1. 3:16 😕Yeah… The only problem here is that addicts will go to methadone clinic for years! I had a friend go every morning at 5 AM for NINE YEARS!! Most of these clinics are nothing but drug pushers for the government.

Also, methadone is just as addictive and “euphoric“ as real opiates. Believe me, I know. ☹️

  2. I'm on Suboxone, and it has saved my life. If you take OUD medication away from people in recovery, you are going to have a lot more people in active addiction, or dead from ODing. Why try to force someone off a legitimate medication that helps keep them off opiates?

  3. Brilliant how these Judges are trying to get people off of the only legal drugs that actually help someone get over opioid addiction. For anyone who doesn’t know it doesn’t just tickle those same receptors, it blocks them from getting higher than they’re allowed. They get a low maintenance dose to hold off any DTs, and if they try to take an actual opioid, it makes them feel awful and helps retrain their brains to stop taking opioids.

  4. I know a former probation officer in WV that said their probationees arent allowed to take suboxone (pronounced B(YOU)PE-RUH-NORF-EEN) or methadone. This wss in Huntington/Cabell. Are they still violating federal guidelines?

  5. I was with you right up to the point where you say that I have to pay the damn drug addict I believe they’ve lost all concept of what would be the intelligent thing to do giving money to someone who already can’t control themselves might just be a death sentence might want to look for some better alternative

  6. I know Wyoming county won’t let you take anything or you can’t get off drug core I know of someone who they made quit taking they’re seizure medication before they could graduate no idea if they had any complications this was 8-9 years ago

  7. These medications allow people to live normal lives and get off opioids. This just shows you how the courts are there to make money, win cases and maintain power. None of this makes sense.

  8. How about the people who have been previously productive members of society on a stable maintenance dose of medication, that are now invalids because they had their medications stopped? Now forcing them to deal with the chronic pain of previous permanent injuries, and now can no longer work, and can't even take care of themselves. Where making it to the restroom by themselves is a good day. The Hippocratic oath is a joke now. Glad I'm retired from healthcare care now. I could no longer stand to watch patients tortured and abused.

  9. Just remember whom started this, whom gave out pain meds like candy, whom lied about them for a decade, and the fact many Drs handle both sides of the addiction, creating customers much?

  10. Crazy how some judge thinks he has the power to stop someone from taking a treatment medication! So it would be like him telling someone that is suffering from cancer that they could not do chemotherapy or radiation treatments! I know someone that has been taking methadone for years now and has a child and a normal life! They are not out conspiring to commit larceny to pay for drugs on the street. Amazing how anyone with the responsibility of upholding the law thinks he can make his own set of rules for people to follow! Laws overrule rules!🌻💜🌻

  11. I need help NOW! I had a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) installed because of failed back surgery. They didn't even follow their own guidelines as my injury happened years before, but they put it in me anyway. One of the side effects are loss of appetite. Now that I have lost 40 pounds, this SCS has migrated. It now constantly rams up against the very part of my spine it was put it to "alleviate my pain" from. It is trapped between my hip, ribs and spine. I am afraid to go back to the same dr. as he has already sent me away poo-poo my weight loss from lack of appetite, denied that this could be shocking me, or that anything could be wrong. If I go to the emergency room, what are my rights? Do I get an advocate in the surgery, IF, they agree to take it out? Do I get to have this piece of crap examined by an independent source? I am seriously at the end of my rope in pain and of course will be looked at as a "drugged up loser." I don't want to be on this stuff but after 6 spinal surgeries, can I at least get a 2 1/2 inch implant that is causing more harm out of my body and heal before I'm written off? I am afraid to do anything, don't trust any of these drs. at this point and frankly, don't know how much more I can take.

  12. BLIND JUSTICE ,HE'S ON YOU TUBE ! IS BEING DISCRIMINATED BECAUSE HE IS A BLIND VETERAN IN N.C. THE COURT WILL NOT LET HIM IN TO THE COURT WITH HIS DEVICES HE USES EVERY DAY TO NAVIGATE THE WORLD ! THEY LIKE TO HAND HIM DOCUMENTS TO READ AND SIGN ! YET HE CAN NOT SEE THE DOCUMENTS ! THE PEOPLE WE PAY TO SERVE DO NO SUCH THING ! THEY ALL SEEM NOT TO HAVE AN A.D.A. PERSON ON STAFF TO HELP MIKE ! THEY ARRESTED HIM AS A PASSENGER IN A VEHICLE AND DEMANDED HIS DRIVERS LICENSE ! I HAVE NEVER HEARD A LICENSE BEING ISSUED TO A BLIND MAN ?

  13. Ihave advanced multiple sclerosis andI take a high dose of suboxone for pain instead of pain medication and it works well. But this drug is extremely hard yo come of off but it is not harmful to you whatsoever.

  14. I’m from Jefferson County PA ! This has been happening for years . I can only hope that I live long enough to see these judges be held accountable not only for something like this but for their legal kidnapping trade . One of those judges is John H Foradora that has discriminated against these people . He is the judge ordering the probation officers to not only stop people from using their meds , but convicting them and jailing them for using their meds from a program they ordered said person to go through . There will be no consequences . These people are scum . We live in an area that hasn’t evolved since the 70s . I reported this same judge for the numerous abuse cases swept under the rug of a child in foster care . This judge has been investigated for many many many civil rights discriminations .

  15. I have a question about all of this, what happens to the doctors who prescribe these medicines for these people? Don't they have a legal and medical obligation to wean people off of these drugs instead of making them quick cold turkey? Can't they be held criminally liable for the way that they screw their patients over in this manner? I don't know, call me crazy if you want but I think doctors have an obligation to their patients, and they're not living up to it.

  16. Some people need OUD medication for years and years others don't ..it don't get you high if you are on a proper dose .. but it kills the cravings and everyone is different should be up to the doctor's not the courts

  17. Arrest Tom Wolf! He had 192,000 people falsely arrested for marijuana during his eight year term from 2016-2022 and gave out overly harsh sentences for growers and sellers while awarding illegal contracts to out of state big corporations. Wolf put democrat George Soros medical marijuana nazi card system in place permanently and never changed the state laws. Wolf killed 3,500 people in nursing homes. Wolf cheated the presidential election and got away with it.

  18. I take subutex. It's the only thing that's helped me & has kept me off the other junk for the last few years. Unfortunately I have to travel out of state just to get it. Can't get it in WV.
