Payless attorney said that "If they had the rental agreement with them"… What I heard is the lady telling the cop that the original rental was running poorly, Payless BROUGHT them a DIFFERENT vehicle. So I'm thinking it was the faulty of Payless for not providing a new contract to reflect this new vehicle.

I was warned off hiring a vehicle from Payless as they had made this error before though AVIS did something similar to us when we hired a SUV from them and a CHP noted in our Hotel carpark our Reg was listed as stolen they went to Reception who contacted us at 3am but we were able to quickly produce the Rental Agreement unlike that poor couple in Oceanside CA.Avis at first treated us shabbily,then presented my wife with a Bouquet of Flowers,then realising that was not enough eventually gave us a 50% Refund.

31. Police are so scared they pull their guns without any reason to believe the family (!) in the vehicle are of any threat. They could've walked up to the window, explained the situation, seen the rental agreement and sent them on their way.

34. thank you for the warning. i'm telling all my family & friends to always ask the car rental company if the car has been reported stolen. BOYCOTT Payless car rental because they took no responsibility, but blamed the innocent couple.

    The cashier at the rental place falsely reported it stolen to get revenge on them.
