Father Speaks Out: The Tragic Murder of Chad O’Melia and the Controversial Sentencing – Everything Law and Order Blog

In a tragic incident that occurred in 2018, Chad O’Melia was brutally stabbed 108 times by Bryn Spejcher, a woman he had been dating for a short period, at his condo in Sherman Oaks, California. Following the vicious attack, Spejcher also turned the knife on herself, inflicting self-harm. Experts involved in the case concluded that Spejcher was suffering from “Cannabis-Induced Psychosis” at the time she committed the heinous act, which ultimately claimed O’Melia’s life.

Last month, the case reached its conclusion in court, where a judge handed down a sentence of two years probation and community service to Spejcher. The decision was met with surprise and disappointment by the prosecution, who had advocated for a prison sentence. In this episode of Crime Fix, a daily show that explores the most significant stories in the world of crime, Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy sits down with Sean O’Melia, the father of the victim. O’Melia shares his thoughts on the sentence and reflects on his son’s life, providing insight into the impact this tragedy has had on their family and the quest for justice in the wake of such a devastating loss.

  1. This monster literally got away with murder. How is this even possible?! Weed doesn't make you murder anything..except some Ben and Jerry's and chips ..she deserves life in prison. Full stop

  2. This is the most ridiculous murder case i have ever heard about, and that's not even an exaggeration. He was Stabbed Over 100 times??!? And she didn't even get any prison time!?!? I literally have seen myself (i was in prison from 2015-2016) people in prison for simply driving on a suspended license and again, not an exaggeration. This is just absurd. I feel so badly for the victims family. SMH 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

  3. Cannabis is legal in California. This presents a precedent that frankly scares me because it gives green light for people to smoke and k*ll.

How many of us who smoke would kill in a cannabis induced tirade? Sure buddy.

You can’t have both the lazy stereotype and murderous stereotype be true of cannabis smokers. Ridiculous
