James Rutherford was a 23 year old middle school teacher in Greensville, Ohio leading a disturbing double life – he had a penchant for messaging underage girls online. His predatory actions eventually caught up to him when he fell prey to a sting operation by Chris Hansen and his “To Catch a Predator” team. Believing he was talking to a 13 year old girl, Rutherford made plans to meet up in person. But upon arrival, the only date waiting for him was with justice.

After being confronted and arrested by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Rutherford appears in an interrogation video claiming no sexual plans were made with his intended victim. But the evidence was damning enough for him to eventually plead guilty to charges. He received 45 days in jail along with 3 years probation and a decade long placement on the sex offender registry.

This is scary, he’s a 6th grade teacher which is I think around similar age to his target victim. I hope the school kids were safeguarded in a way that doesn’t ruin their childhood.
