Golf course brawl: Dentist who beat doctor on the green is freed under ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws

Dr. Eddie Orobitg and Dr. Joe Sivak got into a physical altercation on a golf course that ended with Sivak sustaining multiple injuries due to blows from Orobitg’s golf clubs. Orobitg claimed Sivak attacked him, and he fought back under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. A judge ultimately agreed with Orobitg and dropped the charges against him.

  1. Like if somebody punches somebody and then you go and punch them back

Then, yeah, that would be OK. You know I do not think in Canada you would get great big trouble for doing that.

But if somebody went and punched somebody in the face and then the person they punched, got them on the ground

And started beating them up and they were all bloody and bruised up

Then the person will get in huge, huge, huge trouble for that

So I’m surprised that he just basically got off Scott free

And immunity, so it’s gonna be hard that if he does that again, it’s gonna be extremely hard to charge him

People who do things like that and go to that extreme is being a bully

Because I think he was just saying that he shouldn’t be there

He didn’t mean on the golf course. He probably meant where he was driving. He was probably driving his golf cart where he shouldn’t be.

So yeah, he probably was riding his golf cart where he shouldn’t be

So that doctor was just telling him that you shouldn’t be there you know you shouldn’t be there

I don’t think he meant that he wasn’t allowed to play at the course

It just sounds like he was probably trying to stop him from riding his golf cart where he wasn’t supposed to have driven it

Then I think when he went to go further, that’s when the guy pushed him

You know, I don’t think he was doing it to be mean or anything you know

But the dentist reacted in the most extreme and brutal way you know

He was the one that was a bully he could’ve driven right past him

And just kept going then maybe the other guy would’ve gotten in trouble for for being a bully

And not the dentist, but because the dentist you know started beating him with the golf club

The focus was off the person who was yelling and cursing at him

And now the people were saying, the dentist just the bully

So yeah, that was not too smart on his part. That was definitely not too smart.

  2. OK, I get that. He was mad but come on if somebody is cursing you out and yelling and screaming at you.

And then eventually pushes you yeah, I myself would’ve done the same as him in that situation

But for the average person, especially for a dentist like that’s a little bit extreme

It would be like, for example, in high school, where you get pushed into a locker by a few people in the hallway

But then you decide to talk with your buddies and then come up with a plan

And you decide that you’re gonna beat up the idiots who pushed you in the locker

Great or even just one person push pushes somebody in the locker

And then they go ahead and start wailing on the bully and until the bully is pretty much covered in blood

Like no, I have a hard time to think that that would be stand your ground

And not exactly what the dentist did you know the guy just shoved him

And was being really rude and then the dentist just decided to pull out his golf club

And start beating the doctor with it he stood beating the other guy just for being an idiot

That’s a little extreme to me. You know that is not necessary.

A stand, your ground would be like if someone is yelling at you, cursing you out

Just because and you go up to them and you tell them off like you really put your foot down

And you tell that person enough is enough you’re not gonna take it anymore you’re not gonna being treated like shit

Then that would be us stand your ground type deal

But if somebody was cursing and yelling at you and then

Just decides that he is gonna give that person a little shove or she is gonna do that

Don’t matter what gender you are you know

Somebody gave somebody and pushed them or something

You don’t go and get out a golf club or whatever you have

Even a crowbar and start beating the person with it you know

L O L I’m telling you he did that in Canada. He would be in jail for a long time because.

In Canada, they have a stand their ground law, but it doesn’t involve violence and beating the person

No, I do think in Canada, though we can protect ourselves if necessary

But that was a bit overboard that one

  3. I'm a Florida Dr, and I find this verdict ridiculous. The dentist acted too aggressively for just standing his ground. He should have just left the scene in his little golf cart instead of causing pain and suffering to someone else like that.

  4. Stand your ground laws, or at least the way they’re interpreted in Florida are a complete joke. Everyone should have the right to defend themselves, but beating a man with a golf club and kicking him in the ribs when he’s already incapacitated goes well beyond “self defense”. Both of these clowns should have been charged with disorderly conduct at the minimum.
