Former “teacher of the year” Rita Pangalangan is on trial for the murder of her daughter, Cristina Pangalangan, after South Carolina prosecutors claim the mother left her in a hot car on purpose to die. “This is not a murder case, it’s a lot of things that she’ll have to pay for,” defense attorney Dayne Phillips said in opening statements. “There are consequences for her actions, but it’s not murder.”

  1. There is a woman here in the town I’m in that has an adult son with cerebral palsy. There is an endless list of family, friends, & church members who air more than willing, able, & ready to visit with, care for, & to take walks with him. He’s in a special wheelchair, which has anything he might need in a bag attached. This man absolutely loves going on walks, esp when it’s warm out & people are out & about. His laughter & always present good mood are infectious. After listening to this case, I am so utterly thankful that this man has amazing parents & widespread friends. I can’t imagine him ever being treated badly.

  2. My heart breaks for this defenseless little girl😢…. She may have been making sounds of discomfort but no one could hear her because they left her in the backseat of a closed car🫢😢

  3. There’s a WHOLE ENTIRE HOUSE even if you wanted private time with your boyfriend why not put her in her room and let her watch tv or something??? I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I have safe ways of taking a little break when I’m overwhelmed but I wouldn’t want to lock my kids away for hours…this is crazy smh

  4. Even if it wasn't hot why would she think it ok to leave her child strapped in a seat with limited movement for almost 6 hours. To prevent bed sores she needed to be cleaned and turned every 2 hours. What a horrible person she is.

  5. Why is judge acting like wen 2 pac said ever since i came in the court house not once did u look at me he looking down laughing here and there.a disabled girl who was violated she couldn't defend her self . I feel like the judge acting weird if i hope he notice the little girl

  6. I know absolutely nothing about this case, other than what I gleaned from that video where they’re arguing and making up on the porch while (presumably) the little girl is in the car for hours.

I see a woman who is totally under the thumb of Mr. Wonderful. No self esteem. She’s timid around him and desperate to not lose him. She looks like she’s had a hard life. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that she’s done the best she could, for as long as she could.

I’m guessing he swept her off her feet, moved in with her quickly and now he runs the show. He oozes toxic masculinity, pacing back and forth, wheeling his arms around in agitation. I’m also guessing he put the idea in her head that their lives would be so much easier if only…

I may be proven wrong; it won’t be the first time.

  7. Defense attorney: this is a family tragedy not a murder. Nice attempt to reframe the perp as the the victim. I don't think it is going to work with the jury, in fact, if I were on the jury I would be VERY put-off by the defense attorney who seems to be grasping at straws which means he is now going to have to go the mistrial route.
