In a news conference Thursday after hearing a not guilty verdict be read, former Parkland school resource officer Scot Peterson wept. “I got my life back,” he cried. “The only person to blame is that monster. We did the best we could with the information we had.” Peterson was acquitted of child neglect and culpable negligence stemming from the school shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018.

  1. So, the Parkland Shooter avoided death penalty. And this coward avoided jail time. The only people who actually paid ANY price are the corpses of children that have been dead for half a decade.

But yay. You got your “life” back. If this man gets to heavens gates, it’s going to be a very awkward talk when he meets the dead kids.

  2. He will still be called a coward for the rest of his life, and it will be painful for him and his family. The victim's families needed someone to blame. I don't think they were being malicious; their pain was misguided. The best to everyone affected by this senseless tragedy.

  3. Wait, so this guy stood outside while kids were getting killed and instead of taking action he did nothing? On top of that, everyone in this comment section is defending him? This guy is a coward!

  4. There was one person to blame in this and that was the one person who woke up and decided to go to that school to steal the lives of innocent children & adults. My heart hurts for every life lost and their families. Their pain must be unbearable. But, I think the jury got this right. Bless this man and his family. Thank you for your service.

  5. I feel this is the right decision. He was one man, he didn't know we're the shooter was. When backup arrived , they also didn't engaged the shooter right away either. They stood outside the room in the hallway 6 minutes before they encounter the shooter. Sorry for the loss of the lives of those pracious children. There should be at less 4 or 5 school officers in the school.

  6. The families who wanted this man’s head on a plate are looking in the wrong direction. The authorities failed them, not this man, they should be ashamed of themselves. Justice overcame a politically driven case, they didn’t get their patsy. Amazing lawyer and the jury got it right! ❤️
