The jury in Karen Read’s murder trial is deliberating after hearing eight weeks of testimony. Read is accused of driving drunk and backing her SUV into her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, and leaving him to die in a blizzard in January 2022. Before deliberations began, the Commonwealth and the defense outlined their key points in closing arguments. Each side was given one hour to make its case. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy goes over the key moments in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

In the early morning hours of January 29, 2022, O’Keefe was found unresponsive in the snow outside an acquaintance’s home in Canton. He was pronounced dead at the hospital hours later. Investigators believe Read hit O’Keefe outside the home with her car after a night of drinking, then took off. However, Read claims she never hit him and that she’s being framed in an alleged cover-up scheme plotted by Boston and Canton police officers, along with Massachusetts state troopers.

  1. Lally lied in his closing argument saying "microscopic pieces of tail light where found "embedded" in Johns clothing. Not only where the pieces not embedded, (nobody in any report used the word embedded) they were "scraped off" but they were small not microscopic, microscopic is invisible to the naked eye, these pieces found where 1/8" x 1/16" and 1/16"x 1/16" in size, interestingly, the amount of force, 44-110 lbf. (pounds of force) required to break a tail light with fragments of this size is about consistent with the amount of force that's generated by throwing a glass! The amount of force a 3+ tonne car travelling at 24mh would generate is in excess of 6500lbf, the tail light would have been pulverized, and there would be structural damage to the car. 6000 lbf is enough to crack concrete. It's obvious Glass thrown at the tail light caused it to break. The writing is on the wall. Karen is innocent!

  2. I have been watching this from afar (Australia) and I may have missed certain expert testimonies. Were the vehicle telemetrics from Karen Reads Lexus ever obtained? Was vehicle tracking ever activated through the Lexus Connected App? Telemetrics, GPS and/or the Connected App might show if indeed the vehicle reversed at the alleged speed at the alleged time……

  4. Man, the jurors really have their hands full with thus case! Because honestly, both sides and how he could of died are both very plausible. But I just hope that the jurors truly do their best. I mean it's statistically true that jurors, whether it's intentional or unintentional, do a lot of the time's take the prosecution's side. It's very easy for them to get swayed to that side. Sometimes it's a subconscious thing and it just happens without them purposefully taking that side. So my point is too that you never know if they are just so hung up on the fact that a "Cop" was killed and for that alone she needs to be found guilty. The thing is, jurors are people…. and people are flawed…. so that's why the jury system isn't always pure. I still to be honest don't know if she's innocent or guilty. This case is a mind bender for sure! Because both scenarios are plausible. It honestly comes down to what the jurors BELIEVE. Yeah they'll look at evidence, but in it's most simplest form, it all comes down to their opinion…. that is all. I mean they could find her not guilty, but she truly is guilty. Or find her guilty and she truly is innocent! In a case like this where there really isn't hard, clear evidence, you just never really know if the person deep down is innocent or not…..alright I'm done, lol, I didn't know I wrote this much…..

  5. Surely this should be open and shut?! I can't understand how ANYBODY could find her 100% guilty beyond a reasonable doubt!?

There's MULTIPLE that could point to the rest of them being the ones that are in fact the guilty ones, and it's backed by evidence ffs, there's way too many doubts!!!

    Not guilty. ❤

  6. The scariest part is that this is why I don't trust juries there was so much Reasonable Doubt in this case that it was not reasonable at all to think that this happened when you have a police department that don't even follow chain of custody with their evidence the so-called clothing that had pieces of taillight in it was in the hands of Proctor the corrupt cop searching Karen's phone for nudes for weeks before he put it into evidence everything in this case what's handled the exact backwards of what should happen
