For everyone wondering why they weren't charged with attempted murder, it's because they were charged with aggravated malicious wounding instead, which in VA carries a heavier sentence.

Why didn't Susan went to the phone or the alarm right after she got out of the bathroom. Instead she just stood there while the assailant was stabbing her husband from across of the room. Then the assailant took his time off to look up seeing Susan watching him. She gave him the chance have grazed her with the bullet and she went down. Then he came and stabbed her in the neck. After Susan gets injured and bleeding quite a bit from her wounds. Then she staggers to go and sound the alarm.
This case makes you go HMMMMMMMMMMMM
