In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: Renee Pagel was a selfless, doting mother of three who always put other people ahead of herself. She even donated a kidney to someone she barely knew.

Despite her acts of kindness, one person had it out for Renee enough to want her dead. Renee and her husband, Michael, split up and endured a bitter divorce and custody battle. She expressed concerns to her friends about Michael’s anger and emotions, too.

On August 5, 2006, Renee was supposed to meet up with some friends to attend an art market, but she never showed up. Her father went over to her home and found her brutally stabbed to death in her bed while recovering from her kidney donation surgery.

Renee’s family and friends immediately suspected the bitter ex-husband Michael, but he immediately requested an attorney and did not help police in their investigation at all.

The case remained unsolved for over a decade.

In February 2020, prosecutors charged Michael Pagel with first-degree premeditated murder. He reportedly admitted to his brother in 2011 that he “finalized his divorce” by stabbing Renee with a military-style knife because he was upset about the terms of their divorce. The brother said he didn’t want to come forward about the confession until after their mother died.

Detectives eventually found the knife Mike used to kill his wife by searching at the bottom of a creek with a large magnet.

Michael later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison in October 2020. He will be eligible for parole when he is 80.

Now, let’s look back at the case of a generous woman who gave to others, but had everything taken from her.

  1. I love that Mike moved because "harassment" and the reporters still found him.
Rest in peace Renee, I'm sorry the guy that fathered your children would rather kill you than have gotten an actual job and let your kids have their mother.

  2. He should just sit down and talk to the law, and a mother will always have a cover for her son! Pretty clear what happened here, amazing why prosecutors don’t indite suspects and let a jury decide , as they are so afraid of losing! I believe it is carried to far in the PERFECT case! I hope they get justice for this woman who would go as far as donating a kidney to a friend! I had a cousin who did this for her brother and trust me it’s a very painful recovery for the person who donates! And doesn’t it seem strange whomever killed her waited until she was not 100% ! How many people new this?? Husband that’s who

  3. This sounds like a heartbreaking murder case. 😢 She seemed like a selfless person who donated her kidney to a stranger. 😢

  4. What a shame as she apparently was a wonderful woman. As a Christian I believe in a judgement Day. I hope we all get to see justice before then. I think it's very clear who the murderer is.

  5. I take it people don’t think things thoroughly before doing things like this because if they did they would’ve seen that they got the same outcome just in a different way because neither one of them ended up with custody so this wasn’t very bright was it😳

  6. People are actually telling them to “let it go?”, because it’s been 11yrs? I wonder if those people know more than they’re saying. Why would anyone want a murderer waking free?

  7. I don't say this often but that dude is cold blooded af!!! How could you kill someone after they donated a freaking kidney. And I understand why his brother waited to snitch on his brother until their momma died.

  8. Wow really Joyce? Renee begged you to spend the night with her and you thought that was weird and you allegedly had some prior commitment that you couldn't get out of? Oh I guess it would have been too inconvenient for you to carry and overnight bag huh? I swear the gall
