Police dogs should NEVER be used for sniffing purposes since they are trained to please their handlers and will constantly make FALSE alerts either by the handlers actions or to receive a TREAT and praise by playing with a toy or being patted or petted by the handler while being praised the whole time. Any dog wants more attention and will PERFORM accordingly knowing they will receive this extra attention.
