A medical examiner in Georgia has ruled a teenager’s death a homicide after family members used an app to track her location and instead found her dead. Mia Campos, 16, was seven months pregnant. Authorities have arrested her ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Jesus Monroy, for lying to police, but have not yet charged him with murder. A bit off topic but I have a question, you said the 20 year old was arrested for giving false statements to a police officer. My question is, why does a person get arrested when giving false info, but a police officer or investigator is allowed to lie to the public as a means to an end. Why does the court allow them to lie, but we get arrested?

However, someone may give false information even if they’re not involved…they may have been doing something else illegal, or cheating on a girlfriend, or lied to their parents, etc. and didn’t want to get caught.
So lying to police isn’t a sure sign that they were involved. But if they’re not, they were probably doing something else they shouldn’t be.
