had he been a millionaire he'd be free now. public defenders do not give a damn, they work more for DA than for you. A good lawyer would have spread doubt that the victim is in hiding bc they planned it together and it did not work and now he is hiding from shame and prosecution. And his defense that someone was following him could have been presented much better by a lawyer who speaks from his mind and does not need to read every single sentence from a sheet of paper.
