Utah police discovered a vault in the basement of Jodi Hildebrandt’s home after Ruby Franke’s 12-year-old son escaped captivity in August 2023. It is believed that Franke’s son and her young daughter were being held in this safe room when they were tied up. I tear up every time I watch that vedio of the small, hurt, hungry boy eating sandwich and drinking water at those wonderful neighbor's house, with the lady of the house speaking kindly to him.

Likely, Jodi only had time to close and lock the vault door—clearly knowing that it might contain incriminating evidence and thinking this would prevent the police finding it. This is supported by her claiming that the safe had not been used in years, that she had forgotten the combination, lost any physical record of it and didn’t know who to call to obtain it.
Anticipating the police, she grabbed the rope from a visible location (possibly E’s room) dashed to vault, tossed it into a drawer and locked vault. The rope, unlike weights, the duct tape, and the honey/pepper salve, would raise immediate suspicions given E’s injuries.
