I really don't think 99% of them believe it they just learn about it and test it out as a defence when pulled over by the police or get to court and know they are screwed and defend themselfs because they know getting help of a free defence would shoot down all their ideas. Its just a stalling tactic or hoping for if they clog up the system waste as much time as possible they just dismiss them because they cant be bothered with the mess.

even if i was already a criminal lawyer id still have a government appointed attorney if i didn't want to pay for a lawyer
