Talented singer shot and tied up with Christmas lights; 3 men charged – Everything Law and Order Blog

In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: The heartbreaking case of Egypt Covington, a talented singer who had everything going for her before it was tragically taken away.

Everything was starting to line up for Egypt: she and her boyfriend of a decade, Curtis Meadows, were about to move in together, she won the music competition “Country Idol,” and her career at a beverage distribution company was taking off.

On June 23, 2017, Curtis sent Egypt his daily “good morning” text, but never got a reply. He called her. No response. That night, he went to Egypt’s home and found her with a gunshot wound to the back of the head and her hands tied behind her with Christmas lights. Egypt’s dog, Ruby, was there and seemingly the only witness to the horrific crime.

Curtis was brought in for questioning and cleared of suspicion early on.

Then, three years after her murder, Michigan State Police arrested Shane Evans and Timothy Moore in connection with Egypt’s death. Moore was charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, home invasion, and five weapons charges, while Evans was charged with felony murder and home invasion.

A third suspect, Shannon Groom, was also arrested for felony murder, home invasion, first-degree murder, and three weapons charges.

The three men all pleaded not guilty.

Police reportedly believe Evans, Groom, and Moore went to the duplex Egypt lived in on June 22, 2017, to steal weed from her neighbors because Evans knew the neighbor would be out of town that weekend. Evans reportedly told police he explained to Groom and Moore which apartment to enter, but the men went in the wrong unit and killed Egypt instead.

Groom’s trial is scheduled to begin October 3, 2022, and Moore’s on December 12, 2022. Evans has a competency hearing on November 7, 2022.

Let’s take a look back at the brutal killing of a young woman who had her future wide open that was closed shut all too soon.

  1. He may not have killed her but He’s definitely not innocent he had a tracker on her car, was violent with her, and wouldn’t get the hint she moved tf on 🤷🏻‍♀️ So no I don’t feel sorry for him he definitely didn’t make her life any easier when she was alive so he should feel like shit for that 💯

  2. Last time I saw Egypt after high school was 2011. My mom worked for her dad in the 90s. My wife worked with Egypt at a bar back in the day. I ran track with Shane Evans at Belleville in 06/07, didn't know him that well though. So sad what happened.. RIP Egypt.

  3. I am so sadden by this murder. I mean it goes both ways. People. get into relationships. really believing. that that person their dating is their property. Like if I can't have you. Then nobody else. can have you. That's. some real sick thinking. I mean I w want to be with some that does want to be with me.. Really

  4. Wow that was a surprising ending.
He deserves an apology from the Police Department for instigating the Drama, encouraging people to change the location of their adds and billboards to his neighborhood and around his house.
