In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: The death of talented musician and aspiring actress Jessie Blodgett. She had a knack for writing songs and playing instruments, but one of her close friends extinguished her potential before she truly had a chance to let it shine.
Nineteen-year-old Jessie was found dead July 15, 2013, just one day after she and her theater friends celebrated a run of “Fiddler on the Roof,” where Jessie played the fiddler. She had strangulation marks on her neck and what looked like ligature marks on her wrists.
Just three days before she was found dead, police in a nearby town were investigating an attack after a woman said she had been tackled from behind by a man holding a knife. Detectives honed in on one suspect: Daniel Bartelt.
Daniel and Jessie dated briefly in high school and the two remained close friends. In fact, Jessie’s parents were shocked that Daniel, who spent so much time at their house, could do such a thing.
He was arrested and charged with her murder on July 31, 2013, as well as three other charges related to the attack. He was convicted in August 2014 and two months later, sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Daniel’s attorneys appealed his conviction to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, but the court rejected his argument. He then took the case to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and in February 2018, the high court affirmed his conviction.
Let’s take a look back at the case that silenced a young voice and her talent too soon.

another man hater gone, not much of a loss…
Violence against women is such a myth. Violence is violence. Doesn't matter who it's against, I'm sick of that shit.
Jess had that fire I took her virginity
There's a killer in this cast.. an someone on this stage is about to die.. I don't really agree with the chose of words there damn have some respect for the family
Men living in this world like him is why I chose not to be a mother. My heart aches for these parents so much so that I know I'd never be so forgiving
A psychokiller doesn't need a reason for what they do. It's what they do. Up until the end the psychokiller was acting and pretending. You can't expect empathy from a person that has none.
Jessie was blessed with a wonderful WISE father & obviously two very loving wonderful gifted parents that loved, taught & brought her up the right way….I'm sooo very sorry for their tremendous loss!!! I will keep them, their family & all of her friends in my prayers 🙏 ❤️….God bless them 🙏 ❤️ all….
She must own the shittiest dog in the world. Doesn’t even bark when the owner is getting attacked… try bonding with ur dog more 😢
Figures…. sum one always close
The problem with the Father's well intended organization, Love is greater than Hate, is that to a psychopath that means absolutely nothing and never will. This killer doesn't deserve one ounce of forgiveness.
An amazing and inspirational story.
That dad seems odd… Why did he say that’s the way we found her when clearly he wasn’t there?
Just odd..
Hearing her mother on that call was absolutely heartbreaking. I feel so bad for her. The tears burned my eyes.
16:52 It ended up being a good thing in this case, but should police officers be running plates of vehicles lawfully parked in parking lots? Seems predatory.
There was a lawsuit years back over cops trolling parking lots, running plates, looking for expired tags, drivers with warrants, et cetera, and then waiting on the street outside the lot for the driver to leave so they could pull them over "legally."
Jessie's mother has such a sweet, maternal voice. It's painful just listening to her cry. I can't imagine how she actually felt and continues to feel.
Maybe wondering "if only I'd not gone to work, could I have prevented her death?"
Those kind of questions will likely haunt her for life.
Ana’s hair is looking beautiful like always. Sucks people died
I can feel her mother's pain having to find her daughter like that 💔 absoulety heartbreaking no parent should have to find their child like that 💔 I can feel her anguish
I remember when this case broke. The 911 call and Buck's reaction is heartbreaking.
I could not imagine…I hope her family gets justice.
This honestly makes me think of Christina Grimmee. I can’t even believe the amount of darkness in the theatre community, sometimes, and this is coming from a musical theatre major in college…
Truly inspiring story 🌜🕊🌛 my condolences to everybody that loves her. ✌ ✌☮
Mad respect for Melissa what incredible recall of details. 👏👏👏👏
GD nobody wants to watch a podcast- being back the actual episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking rough sex that went terribly wrong
this is such a sad tale. the world lost a wonderful soul but i pray heaven received her life. Her dad is such a good father, perhaps a bit too trusting and kind. still he is one of the best examples of how a father should behave. mature and concise with speech. I pray for all the families who lost a loved one to criminals like this child. God will not let this go unpunished
Pretty decor !
Geez this guy had way too much freedom in his life. Being a tall white guy, the stuff woman let do to you is insane. I think it was a sexual experience which got out of hand.
Daniel is a psychopath. It's a shame his parents spawned him. He's so disgusting 🤢
Thats why I'm 5 foot 2 and run with a Great Dane!!
Jessie sounds amazing! What a tragic loss. Her poor parents. May God bless them and keep them always. ❤️🙏
Thank you for sharing this with us Ana!
Thank you Ana for the update, hope that you're fine! Sending love from Malaysia too!
Dude wasn't NEARLY as smart as he THOUGHT he was. The death penalty for this narcissistic sociopath. God bless Jesse's wonderful, forgiving parents. 🙏
Cute
Detectives, thanks for putting this creep away where he cannot assault/kill again.
