Texas Mom Accuses Daycare of Poisoning Her Daughter with Drugs – Everything Law and Order Blog

Jocelyn Carter is suing Bright Horizons at Legacy in Plano, Texas after she says her 20-month-old came home from her first day at the daycare with swollen, red cheeks and a cough that led to vomiting. Carter found out later that the toddler had gotten her hands on a vape pen and was seen with smoke coming out of her mouth and nose. Daycare employees allegedly did not report the incident. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber got more details from Carter’s attorney, Russell Button.

  1. The standards for daycare here in Texas kinda sucks. The ratios are too much for one person and exhaust teachers. This is completely different but I don’t love the system in preschools. People will never care for your kids like you will

  2. That's why don't trust outsiders with your kids. One person must earn and other take care of family. Lead the life based on earnings not on society peer pressure… I heard stories of using melatonin gummies on kids so that they sleep…I hate these day care centres

  3. I know we can't see the baby's face due to privacy reasons but I bet you that she's just gorgeous! Poor baby. Texas needs to step it up…
I'm Canadian and I have worked daycare and it's so much more strict here – with the except of the blanket over the head thing that the rep mentioned. We often used to put the blankets over their heads, by their request to help them settle at nap time. It's darker and you can't see the others. I totally see how that he said it would it could cause a serious issue with suffocation but at the time it made sense to me but we were always checking EVERY child EVERY 10 minutes which is a regulation and often, once asleep, we move the blankets anyways. Obviously they would still die well before 10 minutes but I'm trying to say that the regulations here are so much more strict.

Anyways…I really hope the family heals and that sweet baby with the beautiful curls will be ok 100% with no adverse effects.

  4. Readjust your life in anyway to have a parent stay home and care for your children… is my opinion. My children won’t go anywhere without me/close family until they are able to verbalized their experiences.

  5. I can't imagine going through this. I'd be outraged, and I'd probably cause a scene. I would think that keeping ANY dangerous or age restricted products, medications or chemicals out of reach of children would be an obvious and important safety issue. Anyplace children spend time should be free of such dangerous items. Purses should be locked up; meds, cigarrettes, cosmetics all should be inaccessible to small kids.

  6. You should look into the another daycare case that happened in Denison Tx only about 40 mins north of Plano. A child was hit against the changing table and had his femur broken. When the police got involved they saw video footage of the director of the daycare deleting the footage and were able to get her to confess. Truly horrible

  7. A concerning thought I don't think was brought up. While I admittedly don't know much about vapes, I thought there wasnt vapor until there was suction and inhaling. How did this child know how to do so? Surely the staff wasn't doing it on the premises?

  8. Why do you act surprised, I'm 37 and I still can't run into one single mail or female that is right in their mind and as balanced as I. What does that say about humanity. Bunch of unevolved heathens that are lost. Refuse to acknowledge their flaws and negative ways in order to better themselves.

  9. What about regulation about smoking during breaks outside the building? What about drug tests on employees…but what about alchohol levels in caregivers?
Daycare environment causes stress in children. Look up research before signing up your babies. If families don't have time (with resources like emergency funds, Healthcare cost, housing and eductaion costs, ) to spend raising children…. try not to have them. It's crazy how we celebrate baby shower to show we all are there for the newborna nd then eveyone forgets about raisng that child together at home.

  10. I have 5 children none have ever been in daycare. I do believe this was neglectful because a vape pen, cigarettes, tobacco, drugs just should never be left lying around when children are around. That being said the mom and lawyer are reaching stating this 20 month old is traumatized for life.

  11. This is a sad case for the little girl. I'm glad that the mother brought this to the states attention. I don't blame her for getting mad and taking them to court since nothing was really done at the daycare to punish the worker who brought the vape into the building to begin with. But as for the lasting effects of this situation, unless the little girl was to go into anaphylactic shock then there should be no lasting health effects if this is the only time she is exposed to nicotine. What I'm worried about is the physical effects of her mother freaking out over this in front of her. And the little girl hearing her mother talk and tell everyone she sees about what happened in front of the girl. The lawery was right about the lasting physical effects but its not from the insident it will be from the adults around the toddler that will cause her to need counseling in the future.

  12. This scares me my baby is going to start daycare next month shell be 6 months…there should be more restrictions on these daycares especially more teacher per child…they are babies
