During an arrest, accused criminals are told if they can’t afford an attorney, one will be appointed to them. Occasionally, brazen defendants decline a public defender and choose to represent themselves in their case. The Law&Crime Network’s Jesse Weber breaks down the top five times defendants represented themselves in court during high-profile trials.

38 thoughts on “Top 5 Times Defendants Represented Themselves in Court”
  1. This judge is incapable of maintaining control of her court and should be removed from the bench. Every time he interrupts, send him to jail for 30 days for contempt. He'll get the message eventually.

  2. The defendant appears to be exhibiting a mental disorder. Yet, defense lawyers never brought this up to the court and took their client's so-called complaint as request to represent himself. Curiously, the court found the defendant's grieivance against his attorneys as a motion to represent himself. I wonder if this case should have been tried elsewhere. 🤔

  3. He never admitted it he showed no remorse it was about him me me me he did this he didn't need to he could stop car his tears for himself

  4. Yeah in words of darnel there hurt on both sides omg he came out with utter nonsense he had no clue about law or his rights he made fool himself glad he got over 700yrs hes scum

  5. Darnell brooks was disgrace let his lawyers do all work then got rid them think law needs change in America especially when comes to murder or sexul abuse cases

  6. Max Felix out of Massachusetts represented himself in 4 trials and won. Including a civil suit against a police officer. 12cv 10997 1st district. Check it out. A true fight against a corrupt system

  7. The child and the women that stood against their attackers while they were questioned by their attacker are brave. To have to relive all of that and forced to talk to their attacker again :/

  8. He may have said he wanted the death sentence but when he got it, his hands were trembling. He couldn't even use his pen properly. I think it was some sort of reverse psychology and it didn't pan out

  9. If I was the judge in the last case, the defendant saying that they wanted the death penalty because it's more "comfortable" on death row means that it is the exact sentence I would not give them.

  10. I’m sorry but Ronnie O’Neal was not fit to stand trial, let alone represent himself. He should’ve already been a Thorazine zombie languishing in a poorly supervised, comically underfunded, state run psychiatric hospital.

  11. i seriously don’t get why they allow some of these defendants to cross examine victims, i get everyone having rights but there has to be a line drawn at some point

  12. Sovereign Citizenship is NOT REAL! It's fiction and nobody using it in court will ever win with it. Every person is subject to the laws of the area they are in no matter their status.

  13. This is how American judicial system lets victims down that there should be an aptitude test for the allowed to represent themselves to see if they got the intelligence to do

  14. This Judge needs to know how to control her courtroom some female judges are scared of men which clearly shows that in this court hearing that is why there is commit for court
