VERDICT REACHED: ‘Take Care of Maya’ Trial — Kowalski v Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital—Day 33 – Everything Law and Order Blog

The family of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,” allege that a report of child abuse from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life. The Kowalski’s are suing doctors, the Department of Children and Families, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for $200 million dollars in connection to Beata’s death. According to court documents, the child abuse case against Beata was pushed forward after Maya’s physician confirmed her condition, complex regional pain syndrome, was not the fault of her parents. During the time Beata was separated from Maya, she took her own life.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!! BEATA WOULD BE SOO PROUD OF YOUS AND SHE WOULD'VE BEEN DANCING IN THAT COURTROOM. YOUS DESERVE EVERY PENNY! This case has prompted me to start my own journey with CPS here in NZ. Thank you!

  2. Hospital's appeal was denied later by this judge, award was dropped to 220, 000, 000. I hope they get something 🙁 Lawyers receive 40% – 88 million dollars and they get paid first if money actually crosses the table.

  3. I am so glad that this went their way and that they showed the world that no hospital or any other medical practice is above the law. They got justice for themselves, their mother, and showed huge constraint and respect throughout this very difficult process. Mrs Kowalski will be so proud of you all. I hope that, in time, healing from this gets easier and less traumatic. I know they will honour their mother throughout their lives by being true to her morals, her life moto, and her love for them all. She is watching over you all. Xxx ❤

  4. Saddest part is that they'll probably never see a single cent. But I honestly don't think it was about the money. I think it was about the recognition of what they went through. I was doing ok until Kyle broke down then I lost it. You know he was waiting for that question to be answered about his Mom. My heart breaks for him.

  5. Just think if the Kolowsky family gets the punative damages granted to them all the future children at JHACH will actually be saved from this corrupt hospital. The future children's families will not suffer at the hands from the staff at this hospital like Maya and her family did.

  6. Beata knew, before any of us did, that what was being done to her family was a monumental violation, one that she was not willing to let go of, or let them get away with. She was right, and now we all know, too.

  7. I noticed at the end, when the jury was giving their answer verbally , the father, Maya, and her brother were all holding hands, and suddenly her father took his hand away, and his shook his head and I noticed they don’t seem awfully warm to one another with their father. What’s up with that?

  8. 8:41:36 The hospital rep reading the talking points prepared by the defense lawyers is beyond the pale.
Nothing but spin from them. The “community” narrative was a poor choice by them with how they treated this family. Completely tone deaf. Their egos are still in their way doing the right thing.

  9. I had the same issue.. but in my case, my two kids 3yrs old and 6 months old were hospitalised.. my baby had an aspiration pneumonia and my eldest was sent to thr same hospital and diagnosed with a rare disease (kawasaki disease). They told me that my eldest will only live for 3 days if not given a medicine that is costly in my part.. $2800 each abd they need 3 vials. I couldnt even afford to get my younger child her inhaler for her asthma.. they even isolated him to a room that not even me is allowed to get inside. I was so devastated that i almost ended my life by planning to jump off the hospital building. Instead, i prayed and even asked God to take me instead of my kid.. 3 days passed, and my son isnt dying but instead gettin better… and with that, the doctors informed me that they have misdiagnosed my son.. i gone crazy and badmouthed those doctors, humilated them for what they have caused me and my kids… but sadly, i dont have that privilege to hire an attorney and sue them.. as of this day, they are still working while i am already rock bottom as i have lost every penny i have from what had happened and it took us 7 months to stay n the hospital and pay them. Rn, i couldn't even send my other kid to college due to financial difficulty, but still i am grateful, my kids are okay, theyre all doing fine. And tbh, i hate going to the hospital as it traumatised me. Im glad that Kowalski family won this case, somehow, it healed my heart, as i felt what Beata felt during those hard times. May she rest in peace.. and again, the jury did took care of Maya and the whole family. Praying for you all to heal emotionally, physically mentally and spiritually ❤

  10. So grateful that the jury awarded the fair verdict for the Kowalski family. I can't imagine the pain (literally, for Maya, and figuratively) that they have all endured for so many years. This will in no way make it right, but hopefully, it will set a precedent in the future for the medical community. Doctors need to stop being so quick to judge (especially in areas they're not qualified for) or you could end up defending yourself and your livelihood in the future. May God give the Kowalskis some semblance of peace and allow them to move forward with their lives. Rest in peace, Beata, knowing that your family has been taken care of. 🙏🏼💔🥺

  11. I'm sure the Kowalski's would give up every single dollar they won to have Beata back. Money means nothing when they will all have to live the rest of their lives without their mother/wife. That being said, thank you God for watching over this family after everything they went through. May Beata rest in peace now that Maya is taken care of and that justice has been served.

  12. Beata, your eternal love for your daughter will live on for as long as she is alive. Your sacrifice opened a different lens to take a look at same situations as what happened to you and your daughter. no amount of millions will ever take you back and the times you will ever be with your family but know that the jury took care of your Maya. In your daughter's eyes, you will always be her capeless hero. I will pray for your eternal repose.
