WATCH LIVE: Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Movie Shooting — NM v. Hannah Gutierrez — Day Three – Everything Law and Order Blog

“Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed heads to trial this week for two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors believe she violated safety standards on a New Mexico movie set which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The young mom was hit by a live bullet — instead of a blank — from a prop gun that was fired by actor Alec Baldwin. If convicted, Gutierrez faces up to three years in prison.

  1. Why is the defense asking questions that do not even apply to the witness? They keep asking the same questions using slightly varying phrasing and the questions often don't make sense to ask of that particular witness. They're making themselves appear to be reaching and look a little desperate. They're so condescending, I wonder if the jury finds it off-putting.

  2. I don't understand why they keep asking about the process of checking the weapon and safety protocol. It is in writing already. Just submit that safety manual as evidence. The studios and unions have a whole packet explaining how to handle weapons on a set. Rust just didn't follow any of them.

  3. Strong, independent 24 year old women need to have representation in male dominated fields. But when something goes wrong poor, innocent little girls shouldn’t be held accountable? Sorry, no.

  4. Omg this defense attorney. He didn’t do the drop test because no one is claiming the gun went off when being dropped. Geez. Annoying.

  5. Hannah was reckless and has a reputation of being unprofessional. She worked on a film in my town before this and had several issues, including shooting a gun without warning. Nic Cage complained about her. Lots of problems with this crew "using" and I've been a witness to that during filming. She needs to find another line of work. Away from guns. They actually finished the film here in Montana just recently. Low budget western waste of time.

  6. He never even weighed the cartridge you could tell which ones are loaded because they're going to be heavier he's a bad expert

  7. This judge is a hot mess. Defense is argumentative and badgering the witness. She needs to control her courtroom. Never seen a trial judge let the defense go on with ask and answered questions like this . Prosecutor is great but needs to object more.

  8. To everyone conflating gun use and gun safety in the real world with movie set use and safety….. In the real world guns are used with real bullets, and you are responsible for your weapon. On movie sets no real bullets are meant to exist and an armorer and their weapons and safety team are paid handsomely to incessantly inspect, prep, handle, clean and secure weapons and movie ammo. Your experiences are very different than a film set. Yes, on film sets guns are pointed at people and cameras…. bc that's how acting works. In your personal gun experience, you use live ammo. Actors on set- don't. Sets employ weapons specialists and safety experts- you dont.

  9. Wow HG needs an attitude check. She is in court facing a jury. Actions speak louder than words. Defense attorney should check her attitude . A mother was shot and lost her life due to her actions. Justice for Helena and her family ❤️

  10. Ross’ testimony is excellent – he comes off as such a credible witness, I’d have to be careful as a juror because that would’ve done it for me there showing how negligent she was and all the steps she skipped… very believable and sincere! He seems to really love what he does, even the passion he described the story of Rust – just likeable and knowledgeable.
