The family of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,” allege that a report of child abuse from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life. The Kowalski’s are suing doctors, the Department of Children and Families, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for $200 million dollars in connection to Beata’s death. According to court documents, the child abuse case against Beata was pushed forward after Maya’s physician confirmed her condition, complex regional pain syndrome, was not the fault of her parents. During the time Beata was separated from Maya, she took her own life.

  1. I have NEVER seen such an attentive jury! I would love to know who these wonderful people are who have so empathy and caring souls

  2. How terrible that they went as far as to not only take this baby girl from her mother, she can’t even go to court without her mother being muted, she was just speaking beautifully encouraging words to her daughter, that judge is disgusting and the defense judge and hospital are all in cahoots

  3. Mr.Anderson should not be asking questions at all. I mean I appreciate everything he's doing for the Kowalski family but he's absolutely horrible at communicating. I've watched a hundred trials and this is the most disorganized team I've ever seen.

  4. The ONGOING, SMUG, Cocky, Smirky, Mocking-laughter interactions of the DEFENSE TEAM all throughout the proceedings, as they are observing the Plaintiff Attny's making their case, is NAUSEATING.

  5. Wow I just googled CRPS and found alot of the same information these doctors are saying that Maya had and what she could expect with her disease All Children's Hospital screwed up big time! I believe they were predjuce against this family because Beata knew more than what they knew and they were intimidated by her!

  6. So every doctor so far that have seen Maya in regards to CRPS have confirmed she definitely have it. Basically All Children's Hospital (John Hopkins Hospital) failed her correct diagnosis.

  7. So many good points were made today – love that Zimmerman laid plain the reason for the suspected divorce/separation, and I love his description of the hospital "interpreting" the orders. An for clarifying that the court order only happened DUE TO the hospital's reports. JHACH WAS responsible.

I, however, hate how much misinformation was/is still floating around about the ketamine coma. NO doctor would do a procedure which had a 50% chance of death, yet that factoid was still very prevalent among viewers. Ketamine is also perfectly safe when given properly under supervision, which multiple doctors had testified to, yet a ton of people still soapboxing about it's dangerous/addictive effects or withdrawals, which is simply not true.

And the idea that only things that are FDA approved in the US are safe or effective is maddening. As was previously testified, tons of medications or treatments have "off label" uses that are virtually risk free, it's just not worth the time and money to get the FDA approval. and there are MANY countries with comparative or better healthcare which have treatments than the United States of BigPharma haven't approved. the fact that a treatment that the US doesn't allow is offered in Mexico (or Germany, or anywhere) in and of itself means NOTHING.

Maya was in debilitating, unrelenting pain and Beata did what needed to be done. JHACH wouldn't treat her pain properly, and ketamine wasn't approved for that use, so she went elsewhere. She was protecting her kid and doing everything in her power to help her. thousands of people travel for treatment every day, because it WORKS.

  8. just to see maya's health over the course of this first 9 days really helps you see her illness, how could doctors think this is faking. WOW….glad they won.

  9. Best day so far when it comes to jury questions. They 100% know what’s up and at least one of them sounds like they have some medical training.
Starting to hate the defense. The little smirks are ticking me off.

  10. Why did the judge ask her 2 of the questions without the jury just to see her answers and then decide if he would ask in front of them??? Why would that matter🧐

  11. I have never seen so many secrets kept from a jury. So unfair how will she ever get a fair trial. So crazzzzy. Most of the thanks for all this is from this judge if thats what we are calling him

  12. ECT ( Electro Convulsive Therapy) to treat different diagnosis at one time was very controversial & basically initiates a seizure in patients but has great success they use to be intubated as well & while technology has advanced & it’s done quite differently today then in the past it’s utilized & ketamine now is FDA approved in the USA even for severe clinical depression just because some physicians may not agree or are not as well informed about alternative therapies doesn’t mean that’s it’s wrong & as patients we have the right to seek alternative therapies

  13. Poor Maya her entire life is dominated by her sickness role – her identity is of the sick child who everyone needs to tiptoe around less they upset her and cause a supposed relapse of her illness. She and her family are too invested in her sick role to the point she can't face real life and develop as normal child facing normal difficulties.

  14. Withawal symptoms – abdominal pain, irritability and anxiety are exactly what she was experiencing when she came to all children's hospital so she was withdrawing from ketamine not having crps. The biggest sign that she doesn't have crps is that she has completely recovered without any medications and just sheer willpower and rehabilitation. Without her mum codling her and indulging her she had to pull herself and get better from her conversion disorder.

  15. The child moving her legs when deeply sedated shows that she did have conversation disorder – look at how her dystonia disappeared when she is very sedated. She is able to move her legs and feet. It's sad that even that is being interpreted as treatment response when in fact it should be looked as sign of conversion disorder.

  16. Wow, she declined care because knowing her records were being subpoenaed, I wonder why that is? Actually I know why cause she knew she was being honest which would prove that she and her family were liars about how bad her condition really was!

  17. False. She did not get better after JHACH from what they did. She got better AFTER being HOME!! Defense keeps saying that

  18. What does intelligence have to do with withdrawal. Also think some confused between withdrawal and side effects.

  19. Medical coma used for other things. Hear put into medical coma after bad accident giving body time to heal hope improve outcome.

  20. The defense no good points with this witness. Asking first to prove ketamine dudes too high too much but then asking him you don’t know how many treatments Maya had before these improvements. Can’t have it both ways and their admissions and questions actually hurts as admit Maya has CRPS but hospital being sued as gave conversion disorder diagnosis and took away CRPS diagnosis

  21. Wow did defense just say Maya had major relapse in October 2016? Just lost case. If sheltering her saying not CRPS but conversion disorder you just messed up!! Hope jury caught that. Thus was huge. That was mind boggling.
