Wealthy podiatrist in a love triangle gets caught by car salesman-turned-informant – Everything Law and Order Blog

In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: The case of a rich doctor and his girlfriend scheming together in a murder-for-hire plot that shook this close-knit community to its core.

Dr. Ira Bernstein was a well-known podiatrist in the area. He also had a boatload of money thanks to some real estate. His marriage to his wife Susan started falling apart, and Ira’s vast fortune kept them together for legal purposes only.

He fell in love with one of his patients, Kelly Gribeluk, and the two started plotting a way to get Susan out of the picture.

Kelly ran into a car salesman she knew named Marckensy Louissant who said he could help get rid of Susan. Little did Kelly know Marckensy was working with police to record their interactions and meet ups.

Ira and Kelly offered $100,000 for the murder-for-hire. In May 2016, Ira and Kelly were arrested on conspiracy charges related to their attempted plot to kill Susan.

Kelly pleaded guilty in September 2016 to second-degree conspiracy and was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison.

In January 2017, Ira pleaded guilty to second-degree conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of fifth-degree conspiracy. He was sentenced in May 2017 to 5 to 15 years in prison.

About a year later, Ira tried vacating his guilty plea by claiming he was coerced by Kelly into admitting the crime, but a judge rejected the motion. While he was in prison, Susan lobbied with officials to amend a law to increase the sentencing length for those convicted of second-degree conspiracy to commit murder.

Records show Ira and Kelly have both been released from prison.

Now, let’s look back at the case of a love triangle involving a doctor, his patient-turned-lover, and his wife caught in the middle.

  1. Just think since wife was on to him & his other mistresses. He could of caught wife in her revenge tangi's & divorced for that. If wife had proof. No contest divorce, right? Depending on state or good lawyers. Alimony, shared stock in his business. He could rebuild…now look at the mess. The love of $ is the Bi#*h that WILL KILL YA!

  2. The way the wife sounds, I’d bet she was most likely a miserable narcissist. The misery that woman caused drove this man to this. I lived with a crazy woman like that. He should have just moved on and gave her half. His mistake for being greedy.

  3. How can someone be that stupid, going around blatantly asking people to kill someone. The more people she asked, the more witnesses there would be. Also, why would you get your girlfriend to hire someone to kill your wife??? That's one of the first people, police will investigate. Cops have it so easy with this crime and inevitably found a connection between the three. The more witnesses, the better the chance of implication. Both the Doc and girlfriend are fools, they thought it would be easy to get away murdering someone. She even used her own phone to reply to the hired hitman. I can't think of a better way to ruin your own life with all the chain of evidence. The god damn Doc should give his wife the divorce and split the wealth.
